ELODA STOOD with a box between her palms. It was the belongings of her ex-boyfriend, Aiden. Her nail polish was tarnished, parts peeling up at the edges. A strong sense of anxiety clung to the back of her throat and she was next in line to talk. Normally, she was content with going outside but today was scarier than any other.
"Can I help?" The man chimed from behind the counter. When Eloda lifted her head up to look, her heart sunk. He was Aiden's friend. He would tell Aiden he saw her. Trying to not seem panicked or out of it, she placed the box on the desk and he sweeped it up from the desk. "I, uh, that needs to be sent in the mail please."
"Is the address on the box?" Eloda nodded, an obvious glint in his eye suggested he would tell on her. She pulled her purse from her bag and slid the man some cash. "Keep the change." Eloda hurridley spoke, her feet pulling her away from the counter as soon as the last syllable escaped her lips. She clasped the door handle with her sweaty palms and swung it open, practically launching herself out the door and into the chilled air. She let out a breath that she had held and headed home - she needed to record her songs for her new album.Yanking her key out of her front door, she twisted the door knob and stepped inside, the rush of warm air engulfing her like a blanket. She was busy paying no mind to her surroundings in a desperate attempt to rush off back home, but it would ultimately fail when she collides with a taller, slim boy. his hairs curled toward the front of his face and a pair of round, thin-framed glasses stuck to the end of his nose. Her face came into contact with his jumper, and she stumbled backward, his arm catching her and pulling her in. It was then she fully got to take in his features. The freckles that lined his face, the way his eyes glistened in the rays of sun - it was all so beautiful. "Shit, I'm so sorry uh," her eyes met with his, and a smile broadened on his face. The thoughts she had previously seemed to almost wash away at the very sight of his face.
"It's not a bother, not when I bump into a pretty girl like you, " He releases Eloda's arm and a warm blush covers her cheeks. People strolled past, but time felt so slow to her. "I'm Wilbur." He sticks his hand out in front of him, asking for Eloda to accept. Although hesitant, she connected palms with him, the warmth of his hand travelling through her own.
"Eloda," She smiles at him, pulling her hand back to her pocket. She looks down at her feet, and notices that he's wearing the same converse as her. "We're wearing the same shoes!" She giggles, looking up to Wilbur who had a smile plastered so fully on his face.
"I was going to meet some friends at a local cafe, but now you're here would you wanna come? Sorry if this seems all a bit upfront I-""Of course!" Seemingly eager, Wilbur reached out to connect arms with her and she obliged. They began marching down the street in Brighton, the sun beaming down on the pair. Eloda felt a weird sort of connection with Wilbur, he seemed to be easy to get along with. "So, tell me about yourself Wilbur?" She glanced over to his face, to only notice he was already staring at hers. He looked away bashfully, a rose-colour fading onto his cheeks.
"Well, I work at a video game company. It's something I'm really into so I guess you could consider it a passion project." Wilbur squeezes her arm with his, a small laugh falling from his lips. "I work with a couple of my friends, but it's nothing big really, you?"
"I work at a video game company too, no wonder I felt a weird connection to you. What's the place called?" Wilbur wrinkles his face with thought, realising that maybe they did work together but in different departments.
"It's called Aito Entertainment, but I work in the coding side of it. Do you work in the animation?""Yes!" Eloda stopped mid walk to jump up and down at him. Somehow, she knew Wilbur. "No way, must've been where I've seen your cute face around." She smirked at him, poking her tongue out a bit. Wilbur pinched her nose lightly, causing her to hold it like it was pure agony, "that was really uncalled for." Ignoring her statement, Wilbur turned in his step and stopped looking the girl down with a small smile. "Why do you work for a game company, you seem the type to be doing something else." Wilbur questioned her. She fiddled with her fingers, giving him a warm smile.
"Yeah it's more of a side project, I do something else most of the time. I work a couple days a week in there. Just animating to help I guess?" Eloda tapped her feet against the boys as they stood still, conversing about her jobs. Wilbur nodded his head, raising his eyebrows as he did so.
"What do you do then?"
"I'm a singer song-writer. I go under the name Sakura. It sounds odd but it makes sense when you know why my name is Sakura." She smiled lightly, her fingers wandering to the hem of Wilbur's jumper and playing with it. He dropped his hands down to hers and took them. His fingers ran along the calluses in her own.
"I can tell now from your fingers. I think I've heard your music play on the radio before, why Sakura?" He tilted his head to the side, dampening his cracked lips with his tongue.
"Oh it's my middle-name, I couldn't tell you why." Wilbur grasped at her hand and began walking, almost dragging the girl behind him. He nodded, keeping the silence permenant for the rest of their walk."Who's the lady?" One chimed at him, which led Wilbur to go on a whole rant about how he met Eloda and how they do, in fact, actually work together. He then proceeded to tell Eloda each of his friends. Clay, who was rather tall, with a freckled face and had brown wavey hair, gave her a small smile, seeming timid. Tommy was the loud one of the three, who asked who Eloda was before realising he worked with her too. He had dirty blonde hair with a big grin that sat between two rosy cheeks. The last of the three was a small-statured boy who went by the name Tubbo. He had a sort of brown mop on his head, and a really soft but squeaky voice. However, he was very sweet.
"Eloda how were you unaware you bumped into someone you worked with?" Tubbo asked with curiosity. But she had no idea, maybe it was the adrenaline from running out the post office, or maybe she was just an oblivious fool. "I don't go in so often, it's more of a side hobby I guess. I was also in a bit of a rush." Wilbur looked at Eloda, forgetting he didn't ask why she was rushing in the first place. Tubbo nodded, running his hands through his hair before continuing to munch down on the food in front of him. She found Tubbo oddly cute, he was so soft and soft spoken. He had a wide smile on his face when he spoke to Eloda.
After an hour or so of conversation, Eloda realised that she had to get back home to continue an edit for work. "I hate to be a bearer of bad news but I need to head out." The four of them frown, Wilbur sticking out his bottom lip especially. "I'm sorry! It was lovely meeting you all. I'm sure we'll meet again soon." Eloda stood up, wrapping her jumper back around her body and picking up her purse. She wrapper her fingers around the warm to-go cup, wanting to drink the rest on her lonely walk home. Wilbur, pulling the chair from under her to let her out, followed her to the door. He pushed the door open, letting her out and with a delicate smile pulled her in for a hug. "Can I.. have your number?"
"Of course, call me or message me whenever Wilbur. You're cute." She smiled, scrunching up her nose at him. With a small wave and a few more exchanges of words, Eloda set off to walk back to her flat. It wasn't long before her phone pinged either and it was obviously a text from Wilbur. A small smile fell on her face as she began to text him back. She watched as the clouds mixed together in the sky as she walked along, humming a tune to herself that felt familiar. Her hands hugged the cardboard cup full of liquid, the warmth sloshing gently from side to side as she stepped.
Gripping the handle between her fingers and palm, she pushed the door open and hung her jumper up on the small rail by her door. With the door clicking shut behind, she slipped off her shoes and kicked them aside before launching her body onto her sofa, letting out a very large sigh. She had to focus on song-writing for a new album. She was a relatively small creator but sometimes while she was out and about people would notice who she was. However, she decided to message Wilbur every now and again.
