I wake to the sound of my TV talking away to no one in particular. I lean over, switch it off and toss the remote onto my bed, hauling myself to my feet. I rub my head and try to recall last night's events.
As walk out into the kitchen I find Bailey cooking breakfast.
"Morning sleepy head." She laughs.
"How long do we have?" I ask her reaching for my phone which is resting on the kitchen worktop.
"I HAVE HALF AN HOUR?!!" WHY DIDNT YOU WAKE ME?!" My eyes widen and spin on my heal racing for the bathroom so I can shower.
It takes me twenty minutes to get ready before I shovel bacon into my mouth, grab my keys and other bits before practically leaping out the front door. Leaving Bailey to laugh at me. I told her to say sorry to my sister and for her to give me a call when she lands.
I'm trying to tie my hair up into some form of messy bun as I wait for the elevator to arrive. I debate taking the stairs but the bell rings and the doors open before I have chance to change my mind. I pick my bag up from the floor but when I look up, my eyes meet his and I find myself lost for a brief moment before I pull myself together and step inside the small metal box.
"Morning." I say as if I didn't just stare blindly at him for ten seconds straight.
"Hey." He smiles ruffling his hair, a sleepy expression on his face.
It seems as if he overslept also. I lean against the elevator walls as it begins to move. I sigh and check my reflection discreetly in my phone, fixing a stray strand of hair that's escaped the hair tie. I hear Rudy laugh and I look over realising he had been watching me the entire time. I look down and my feet and laugh too.
"I think it's the four of us today, on set I mean" He remarks as I look up from admiring my sneakers.
"Yeah, Maddie texted me last night to let me know." I nod as the elevator reaches the ground floor.
"After you." Rudy grins gesturing for me to exit first.
I walk out into the lobby and notice Madelyn and Chase stood waiting for us.
"Morning you two!" She laughs.
"Took you long enough." Chase shrugs before breaking out into a smile.
"Long night? Seems like the two of you must have been very busy..." Chase jokes looking back and forth between the two of us and clearing putting two and two together and making ten.
"It's not like that Chase and you know it!" I laugh bumping my shoulder into his as we walk towards the doors.
"That's not what the all mighty social media says." He mocks.
I cock a brow "what do you mean?" I ask, confused.
"Some kid posted on Instagram about you and Rudy dancing in the rain or something..." Maddie cuts in.
"Oh-" I murmur as Rudy rakes a hand through his hair and shrugs.
"We where at the art gallery yesterday."
"Yeah." I agree, but a part of me feels disappointed thst Rudy wasn't completely truthful.
It's clear that Maddie sees through this and says,
"Hey Dan, wanna ride with me? Chase is gonna go pick up some coffees so we can get to set early."
"Sure!" I smile walking towards the parking lot.
"I'll go with Chase." Rudy adds.
We go our separate ways and as soon as they're out of earshot Maddie turns to me frowing slightly.
"Now what really happened."
I laugh, of course she didn't believe him.
"What do you mean?" I do my best to remain oblivious.
"I mean what actually happened? Chase never said it was yesterday, it could have been a week ago for all you guys knew but Rudy specifically said yesterday meaning there's something to tell." She points out as we walk towards her car.
"Oh." I say my face going a deep shade of red as I open the car door.
"Yeah. So, spill." She pushes and I get in.
"RUDY KISSED ME!" I blurt.
I put my head in my hands and try to hide the emotions splayed on my face.
"YOU WHAT?!" She remarks wide eyed.
I look over to her and laugh, I have no idea what else to do with myself.
"Shit."
"Oh Dan." Maddie laughs.
We sit in silence for a while until I eventually cave, I tell her everything. About dancing in the rain, the way he'd looked at me right before he kissed me. How we'd ran, hand in hand all the way to the art gallery and how we'd been the only two there. How for one morning everything was perfect. I leave out my sister walking in on us but I do tell her about the kiss in the hallway, how he'd grabbed my hand and pulled me to him with so much emotion that it almost felt like a cheesy romance novel.
She shakes her head, smiling at me as leans her arm over the headrest to reverse out of her parking spot.
"I knew it." She laughs.
"I knew you two would happen eventually." She continues as she pulls out onto the road.
"Yeah..." I breathe digging through my bag to retrieve my phone.
I see a notification from Rudy pop up.
Rudy: Wait for me when u get to set, need to talk x
My heart plummets in my chest even though it was a lighthearted message I know exactly what this means. It means he's come to terms with everything that happened, that he regrets it, that he didn't mean any of it. That it was a mistake.
"Hey, hey what's wrong?" Maddie seems to have noticed the change in my demeanor.
"Nothing." I lie flipping my phone over and switching it off.
I burry it deep in my bag and begin to fiddle with the radio trying to find a decent station. I click to four and Vibes, by Chase Atlantic begins to play.
"We need a playlist." Maddie points out.
"Agreed." I nod as I roll my window down and stick my head out.
I need to feel the sea salt air on my face. I do one the stupidest thing I have ever done in my life and unbuckle my seat belt before leaning out a little further.
"DANA PARKER GET YOUR ASS BACK INSIDE MY CAR RIGHT NOW!" Maddie calls grabbing a hold of my leg and tugging at it.
I ignore her and let the wind flow through my hair before I climb back in and plop down into my seat.
"Thank you." She breathes turning the music up.
