It rarely happens that Gai walks the streets of Konoha with an expression as gloomy as today. Sure, people have seen him walking around with proud or enthusiastic smiles, or determined frowns as he spend literal days to complete a huge amount of laps around the village.

Ever since Gai had become a leader of a team, villagers have even heard him mumbling to himself as he marched the streets, lost in thoughts about what to do to make his team Konoha's best ninjas.

But today, Gai isn't able to do any of these things. This unpleasant feeling is crawling up his spine ever since early this morning. He woke up in a good mood, as per usual, but as soon as he got outside and saw Kakashi it hit him; he and Kakashi hadn't done a challenge in such a long time, with everything that has been going on in the world. And somehow it just got him down.

That isn't why he's feeling this strange, though. His mood only took a turn for the worst after he actually spoke to his rival and everything about the experience was odd and foreign to Gai.

Gai had showed Kakashi a determined smile and jumped out to him to challenge him, but as soon as Kakashi asked him what kind of activity Gai wanted to do this time, Gai fell silent. His heart even felt like it was aching when he realized that there were no challenges left to be done. And when he took too long to come up with something, Kakashi just turned around, saying he didn't have time for this.

He's been feeling so down ever since that moment. Questions linger in his mind as he saunters through the streets, kicked at a stone every once in a while out of boredom.

He would've loved to challenge Kakashi to the best match ever, for the first time in quite a while he woke up actually looking forward to beating or being beat by his friendly rival. But have they, after being each other's rivals for so very long, finally run out of ideas; it can't be.

"What should I do now?" Gai mutters to himself, but nothing comes to mind, not even the slightest idea for a challenge, a match, hell just doing a normal activity with Kakashi would be enough to be able to get Gai back to his usual self. But still, he cannot think of anything.

He kicks another stone away from the wobbly path. At the exact same time the stone hits a wall, a great idea hits Gai in the face. It comes out of nowhere, that sudden realization, but Gai now knows he doesn't have to face this pain of not knowing what to do all by himself; he has a team.

He starts running, he has to go to Lee and Neji and Tenten, they have to meet up now; it's an emergency! He gets all of them together sooner than later, and even though everyone shows up at their training ground in their pajamas, Gai's so glad they've assembled here for him.

"So, tell us," Tenten says, breathing fast from running towards this place. "What's the emergency?"

Rock Lee steps forward stating he already knows what's going on. It makes Gai proud, to see that his pupil has such a good knowledge of who his teacher is and what's bothering him.

"It must be part of our training, right sensei?" Lee asks, placing his hands on his hips proudly even though he's not entirely right about that. Gai could disguise it as training, finding an activity he and Kakashi can do together is quite a large and important task after all, but he decides that Neji and Tenten will probably go to bed again if they think they has to do with training; they always keep denying that Gai's methods of training are useless, while Lee at least knows they are amazing.
