In Mexico , the fall is coming up. It means one of our favorite holiday traditions is almost here. Me and my family love to celebrate Dia de los Muertos. It's been one of our favorite traditions for a long time. Dia de los Muertos is an important holiday for my family because we get to celebrate with family members who are not with us physically but are in our hearts spiritually. so we have to make sure everything is perfect and where it's supposed to be. We have to make sure we place all the Ofrendas , make sure all the flowers are perfect , and the objects or food that deceased relatives enjoyed in life. We also put their photo up wearing their favorite outfit they wore when they were living. At this point I could not wait for the day to come. This Dia de los Muertos will be a good one.
I woke up and looked at the calendar and Hoy es el día de los Muertos. The special day I've been waiting for is here. I hurried up and got ready for the day. I went outside and greeted my family who visited today. We ate as a family waiting for it to be midnight to start Dia de los Muertos. While I was with my family just hanging out I noticed outside it's getting dark. It is now midnight, meaning Dia de los Muertos has begun. After I finished eating I went to check the Ofrendas. I was examining each picture one by one and was ready for midnight. I saw we put candy out by the ofrendas , so I took one and ate it, But while I was looking at the pictures , I accidentally stumbled and knocked over a picture. I knocked over my great grandmother's picture.
I stood quiet looking at the picture that just broke. I looked down to grab the picture from the ground , but when I got back up I saw my family , but not my living family , I saw my family that is on the Ofrendas. When I saw this I rubbed my eyes , hoping I was just seeing stuff. When I opened my eyes I still saw them. They're looking at my hand , they're looking at the picture in my hand. My great aunt and great uncles are all looking at "me telling me to put the picture back on the Ofrenda". While they're telling me to put the picture back , I'm thinking in my head , am I dead , how can I see you, how can you see me. I interrupt them by asking "why they can see me and why I see you". One of my great uncles tells me "that I stole candy from his brother who is also one of my great uncles". Then one of my great aunts told me to put the picture back so my great grandmother could cross the bridge to see us.
Now that I know why we can see each other , I start to think this is kinda cool. While I'm talking to one of my great aunts I see my family. I went to talk to my grandmother but she was ignoring me so I tapped her on her shoulder but my hand just went right through. Then my great aunts said they cannot see you or hear you , you are dead but not really dead.
While I'm taking this all in, nobody living can see me , my family who passed away is guiding me to the land of the dead. While we were approaching an orange flower bridge I wasn't quite sure if I could cross. My great uncle said I could cross so while I was walking across the flower bridge I noticed how cool and adventures the land of the dead looked. I saw cats that could fly , I saw geckos that breathed out lava , I saw animals that were colorful and glowing. In my head I am thinking this is awesome.
While me and my family members walked through the land of the dead, we stopped to visit my great grandmother, but when I saw my great grandmother , she didn't look too happy. I heard her scream saying "Why can't I cross the bridge". While my great mother was ranting , she saw us and was extremely surprised to see me. She was asking my great uncles and aunt why he is here. They explained to her that I accidently forgot to put her picture back up. She was angry and disgusted to hear what I did. I then showed her the picture
