Chapter 24 hot water

Ricky's pov

Thankfully John was down for the night. So I had sometime to complete homework that I had missed while I was off school. I opened my class copy of the Fault in Our Stars by John Green . This was the book that my English teacher had decided to read for a novel study . I read about a page and a half before I heard my cell phone ring . I quickly but gently placed why bookmark in my book and pulled my phone out of my pocket to answer it . I was in such a hurry to answer it before it stopped ringing , I forgot to look at the call display .

Phone conversation

Ricky: hello who is this ?

Unknown : hi Ricky this is Bella . I'm sorry . Is this not in good time to talk ? Is John fussy or something ?

Ricky : no, no there is nothing like that . John is down for the night at least I hope . I laughed a little . It's just that I was in the middle of doing some English homework and I forgot to look at the call display before I answered the phone that's all . Anyway what's up ?

Bella : well Ricky , I was wondering if we could talk about what happened between us ? I was also wondering why you didn't talk to me at all in class today . I want you to know I am really sorry about what I did and about what happened between us .

Ricky : listen Bella I think that we both have a lot to discuss . But to be completely honest with you right now is not a good time because I really have to get some homework done before John wakes up again I explained to her . I'll tell you what though , its Friday tomorrow . I can ask my parents to babysit John for me and you can come over to my apartment for dinner . I'll cook . Does that sound alright ?

Bella : alright Ricky that sounds like a good idea . To be honest i feel like I haven't seen you in forever . I apologize for interrupting you during the little study time you get . See you tomorrow that is if you can get your parents to babysit John that is . Have a good night Ricky .

Ricky : you have a goodnight as well Bella. Don't worry I will do my best to get my parents to babysit John on Friday . If they can't do it Friday I will figure out something this weekend . I promise . However if I can't get either my parents, grace and Jack or just one of them on their own I promise set I will make it up to you as soon as possible .

Bella : its okay I understand if you can't find a babysitter . It is kind of short notice after all . I'm sure we can reschedule at some point . Anyways goodnight Ricky bye.

Ricky : I'm really sorry again goodnight Bella bye .

End of phone conversation still Ricky's pov .

Bella hangs up on me before I get the chance to. I quickly slip my phone back into my pocket and continue reading my book report book. Just as I was able to get a chapter finished I heard John crying from the baby monitor as he woke. After placing a bookmark in my book I closed it and set it on the table in front of me. I stood up and took a long sigh as I buried my head in my hands. You're okay, you are okay Ricky I whispered to myself and made my way to Johns nursery. daddy's coming I said loud and that's for him to hear me. Hey little man, its okay you're alright I told John as I as I gently cradled him in my arms. I'm here its okay. Shsh daddy's got you I whispered to him . I tiredly swayed him side to side in hope that it would help him once again fall asleep. To both to both my surprise and slight frustration the soothing motions did not succeed in comforting him. Then I quickly realized that he was fussy because he was wet. Okay daddy will fix it I told him. I carefully laid him down on the changing station that I how to set up across from his crib. Oh I know you don't like this I said as I removed his diaper and he started to scream. I did my best to change him as quickly as possible. Alright John we're all done, good job buddy I told him as I lifted him back into the security of my embrace. Daddy loves you so much I lovingly smiled at him as I placed a kiss on his forehead. Then I carefully released him from the secure warmth of my arms and back into his crib. I quietly returned to the living room and continued reading where I had left off before John had awoke.
