The wind picked up in an enormous swell, followed by a gust so powerful it lifted the empty car clean off the ground and threw it down the street. Along with the flying car were all sorts of other debris taken by the wind. A tattooed woman with a shaved head was standing at the head of it all with a glowing green rod over her head and a matching green and black jumpsuit.
Nightwing, Starfire, Beast Boy, and Wonder Girl all arrived around the corner of a distant building, watching the destruction from a distance. Nightwing used the enhanced lenses in his mask to get a better look at their opponent and then turned back to his team.
"Alright," he explained, "It looks like she's using some kind of tech. If we get that away from her, we can end this easily."
"No problem, boss!" saluted Beast Boy playfully, "Allow me!"
"Fine," conceded Nightwing, "Just stay away from-"
"Woohoo!" cheered Beast Boy, a sound that became a yowl as he transformed into a green Bengal fox and sprinted away.
"-any metal," finished Nightwing defeatedly.
Beast Boy darted for his target, swiftly dodging flying debris and occasionally evading the wind by racing through rubble. His fox form allowed him to move quickly while responding agilely and maneuvering the powerful winds with relative ease. He then learned that when that evasion did fail, his body's light frame was quickly swept away into the air by a single gust.
Beast Boy yelped as he flew through the air. Spotting a streetlight out of the corner of his eyes, Beast Boy quickly transformed into a fruit bat and spread his arms and wings. Riding the gust of wind directly to the streetlamp, Beast Boy extended both arms so as to ensure gripping onto the rod as he passed, clutching on for dear life.
"Beast Boy!" shouted Nightwing, "I said to stay away from-"
Lightning struck and Beast Boy let out a scream as his body reverted to its human form, eyes bulging and body convulsing in pain. The green boy fell limply into the wind and was quickly tumbled roughly down the street amidst the debris. Nightwing saw sparks coming from their opponent's rod.
"Damn it..." cursed Nightwing.
"I've got him!" volunteered Wonder Girl, running out from cover.
Nightwing sighed as he watched Wonder Girl nimbly race through the windstorm and retrieve Beast Boy's unconscious body with ease. Nightwing cursed himself for bringing Beast Boy along. He was a rookie, basically still in training. Nightwing had wanted him to stay behind at the tower with Victor and Raven, but he had insisted on coming along.
"Starfire, take the offense," ordered Nightwing.
"Yes," nodded Starfire.
The massive woman's red hair grew out like a plume of dark flame before Starfire rocketed into the sky, her hair growing further and trailing behind her like exhaust from an engine. Nightwing smiled as Starfire lowered herself closer to their opponent, eyes and fists now both glowing green. Her purple combat harness left most of her muscular arms and legs bare and she carried the confidence of a warrior. It felt good to have her on their side.
"Stop this at once!" commanded Starfire, "Do not make us use violence!"
Lightning struck, although it didn't hit Starfire. This woman's powers seemed tied to weather, so while she could generate lightning, it still seemed limited. The weather witch's smug look suggested it had been meant as a threat, so Starfire responded in kind with a barrage of green star bolts thrust from her hands.
Nightwing watched the bolts of stellar energy fly toward their target, but each one missed their mark by a substantial margin. Starfire gritted her teeth in frustration as Nightwing concluded that the wind was affecting the starbolts' trajectory in ways that were almost impossible to follow. They needed a different strategy.
