The cafeteria boomed with white noise from everyone being rowdy about the assembly this morning for the football game tonight. I just sat at my usual table by myself as I observe everyone from afar. The football players and Cheerleaders goofed around making jokes in their usual spot in the middle of the lunchroom. Awhile the band kids talked about...band stuff?

I held up my book, "Carrie" by Stephen King, in front of my face to make it look like I wasn't people watching. It's always awkward when someone catches you taking a glimpse at them. So if I do get caught I can just pretend I'm reading.

My eyes kept scanning the room until I got a glance of someone looking right back at me. I took a look at her and quickly moved my eyes back to my book. Only getting a slight peep of what she looked like. She had long wavy red hair that sat on her perfectly, freckles that covered her face beautifully and big blue eyes that would make anyone melt in their seats.

A serge of nervousness went through my body, hoping she didn't think I was watching her and her friends. I slowly look up to see if she's still staring but was only met by her empty chair.

"You're quite the looker aren't you?"

I jumped a bit and whipped my head around to see the red headed girl right behind me with a slight smirk on her face. I do have to admit she is VERY beautiful. The kind of beautiful that made you question 'am I gay?' The quiet made me realize that I haven't answered her yet and I'm just sitting here looking at her or trying to look at her...I'm not really good with eye contact.

"Oh...um...uh..." my words got stuck in my throat. What do I say? "Yes...I mean no!" I felt so nervous that I just wanted to run away and never be seen again.

"Don't worry I'm just joking around with you" she gave off a cute little giggle that made my heart happy.

My hands wrestled against each other nervously as I admire her hair. Then I realized I was staring at it for too long and decided to look down at the ground which looked gross and unclean. It was hard for me not to look back at the beauty behind me.

The clicking of shoes got closer to me and stopped right at my side. All I could think about is how close she is to me and how I'm not able to look up. Why can't I look up? She's gonna think I'm weird! Look up Sophie!

"Carrie. That's a good one. You've got good taste...um..."

"Sophie Walten."

I said quickly with a nervous crack in my voice when I said it, still trying to get my eyes off the ground and look at her.

"I really like that name...I'm Jenny Letterson."

She moved her hand out towards me for a hand shake. My heart started to panic just thinking about human touch. I slowly moved my eyes up to hers and slightly shook her hand. She gave me a sweet smile that made me calm down a bit. Once our hands pulled apart the bell rang. Instant relief went throughout my body. Happy that I didn't have to deal with socializing anymore. It really did ware me out.

"I'll see you around Sophie. Stay cool."

I took one last look at her cute smile as Jenny walked off to whatever class she had next. I just sat there and watched her walk farther and father away. Thinking...

Man she's pretty to look at.
