Chapter 9
Hope sat down at the kitchen island and waited for Dylan to come join her, which he did, reluctantly. He sat down beside her and she found herself looking at him. The way his black her was tousled as if he didn't have a care in the world. She smiled knowing that he didn't care what other people thought about him. He looked at her and when he saw that she was looking at him he smirked and said, "Having fun?"
She jumped out of her daze and blushed. "I don't know what you're talking about." He smiled looking around the room.
"So where are your parents?"
"They aren't home actually!" She looked around nervously and heard Dylan chuckle.
"Don't worry Blondie, I'm not gonna do anything to you." She looked up into his deep ocean blue eyes and felt her heart skip a beat.
"What about your parents do they know that you're here right now this late?" This made the smile vanish off his face. At that time Hope had realized that she had touched a soft spot. She could tell by Dylan's posture that he was uncomfortable.
"They're dead." He said. His voice was droopy and held no life in it. Hope felt the heat rush over her body. Of course they were dead, and of course she would ask him. But how would she even know?
"Oh my gosh I'm so sorry Dylan." She lightly placed her hand over his and to her surprise he didn't flinch. When she gained enough courage to look up at him he had a small, sad smile on his face. Hope hated herself for blushing that easily and looked at the ground. She quickly looked towards the living room and had an idea. She needed to change the subject and she knew just the way.
"Dylan?" He looked up at her and his eyebrows creased, "Can I show you something?"
"Yea?"
"I've never showed anyone them..." He raised his eyebrows with a confused look on his face. Hope got up and waved him over to the walk in closet. She slowly opened the door and waited until he was in, to turn the light on. Hanging around the spacious closet was her paintings. Her most recent one was already hanged up smack in the middle. She smiled when his jaw slowly opened and his eyes took in all the sceneries.
"These are yours?" Hope nodded and slowly walked up to her favorite painting. She looked at it remembering the moment that she dipped her fingers in the smooth paint and closed her eyes knowing that no matter how she moved her hands the painting would be colorful. She lightly picked it up and brought it over to him.
She smiled and said, "This is the first painting I've ever done." He took it out of Hopes hands and looked at it.
"Its beautiful."
"Thank you." He put the painting down and made his way out of the closet. Hope however loved coming into this room to clear her mind. She slowly backed away, still admiring her work. As she got to the door she turned off the light and turned around. She ran smack into Dylan. She looked up at him staring into his ocean eyes. He took a step towards her making her stumble back a bit. She ended up running into the closet door making it close shut. With one more step Dylan had closed the space that had been between them. She felt herself hold her breath. She felt his hand lightly brush against her cheek pushing the loose hair behind her ear. His touch left her skin burning up. She could hear her shaky breath, but under her palms she could feel the steady beat of his heart that was beating slightly faster than it normally was.
"Hope." She heard him whisper. She looked up and found herself looking right at his lips. She could feel his breath on the tip of her nose. They both drew closer until they were one breath away.
There was a knock on the patio door. Hope jumped and pulled away from Dylan. She blushed as she realized what was about to happen. Slowly, she made her way to the door and drew the shades back and was surprised when she saw Liam standing there. She opened the deck and looked at him.
"Hey Hope, I just wanted to come talk to you about earlier today-" Before he could go on she interrupted him.
"I'm kinda busy.." Liam's eyes glanced behind her and she turned around to what he was looking at. That's when she remembered that Dylan was over.
"Yea I can see." He said in an annoyed voice. His body suddenly was stiff. He kept glancing up at Dylan hatred started to invade his eyes. Hope was in shock. She had never seen Liam so angry before.
"Liam calm down." She heard herself say.
"Whatever Hope. Goodnight." He walked away and Hope felt the sudden urge to go after him and to tell him to come inside so that they could talk, but instead she let out a deep breath and went back inside. She locked the door and closed the shades. Hope walked over to Dylan; she wished Liam hadn't interrupted them and that they could just pick up where they had left off. Being this close to him and not touching him was driving her crazy.
"It's getting late. I should probably be heading home or else my aunt will freak..." Hope felt disappointment that he was leaving. "Ill see you at the bonfire tomorrow though right?"
She smiled. "Wouldn't miss it for the world."
He walked over to her and tugged at her hand and pulled her into a hug. She felt her body relax and mold into his. She smelled the bark and forest from his shampoo. Dylan pulled away slowly and looked into her eyes. She blushed and when he started to lean down she closed her eyes. She felt his lips touch her forehead.
"Goodnight Hope."
