The howling wind shook the house that stood alone atop of the cliff. The house was abandoned – or so it seemed but, if you were ever to go close to it you would see the constant dim light of one lonesome candle. I – you see- lived in this house, I always have and always will, the floorboards creaked and all the doors were broken but none of that matters. The silent rain that is falling with a great force has battered the roof and the thunder echoes through the vacant hallways that are barley ever used. My room however is fantastic, phenomenal with the most marvellous creation hidden away never to be seen by anyone but me. Deafening silence filled the room as I fought the bloodcurdling feeling of anxiety that came upon me with the sudden realisation of what I was about to do.

Life… I was going to create life. My sole purpose for the past four years. I watched in anticipation as I saw the muscles of its human arms flex and its catlike eyes flicker open. I staggered back in confusion as its facial expression distorted and warped in to one that resembled sheer horror. The pure need for life – for movement- ran through its visible veins. Its pale, fur covered skin began to tear as its muscles grew without any work, growing, rising, increasing more and more by the second. Its muzzle contracted into a snarl and, with teeth bared, it pounced towards me.

It wasn’t that I was scared as such, more excited .this creature that I had made was stunning and yet so gruesome. Its fur was patchy and in some places matted its teeth where white with a perfect shape. I broke out of my thoughts when I heard a lions raw. I turned and fled in bewilderment. Down the corridor; out the door and around the back of the house. I took refuge in the garden. The branches of the great oak tree provided a stable hiding place for me as I sat in the starlight alone despite all my emotions, the darkness let me think. What had happened? Why? Where did I go wrong? All of these questions ran through my head over and over again until I felt dizzy. That was when I saw it... out of the corner of my eye.

Thinking back, I noticed the one flaw in my plan. I lost the love. All the years – all the time that I had put into it. All the family visits I skipped- were they missed in vain? My heart broke as I thought about it. None of my family even tries to contact me anymore. I confined myself in this creature by shutting out the rest of the world. It worked – I guess – I did it, didn’t I? However I could never love this creature, not in the way a mother loves their son or daughter, I could never supply that sort of love to anything but, and I could try.

After my realisation I made my decision. So, I got up from my hiding place and walked out into the open air of my garden I couldn’t see the creature but I knew it was there somewhere. I walked around the garden for awhile effortlessly trying to find the creature, my creature. I stopped when I saw the bushes that where quite close to the edge of the cliff move out of the corner of my eye. Walking over too them I noticed bright lion eyes between the leaves. I ran forward towards the bushes when I heard an ear piercing roar which took me by surprise.

I staggered backwards in shock, but I lost my footing. In that split second I fell. The world became blurry as I plummeted too my doom. I hit something hard and as pain spread through me I took one last breath before everything went black.

I never knew what happened to my creature but, if you ask around some people will tell you stories, some will tell you lies and  some or at least the very little ones will tell you of the thing that went ‘bump’ in the night...
