Aunt Kate was one of my mom's closest friends, they attended high school and college together. We spoke once in a while she lived in New York but she was just as busy as my mom working about three jobs.

"But she was perfectly fine," I replied confused

"She had a kidney failure, the surgery was unsuccessful,"

Mom continued sniffing for a while before she started sobbing.

"Where's Roxy?"

"She's sleeping, we're attending the funeral tomorrow, so no school,"

"Okay," I sighed my mouth trembling before heading upstairs unable to bear my mom's cries

I made my way downstairs after changing to see my mom being comforted by my dad.

I walked over to my mom giving her a hug.

"I'm so sorry mom," I hugged her as she continued sobbing

A tear rolled down my cheek and I wiped it away quickly.

"She didn't tell me about her kidney," my mom sobbed and my dad held her close while I took a seat on the couch opposite them

"It's okay," my dad comforted her

After a couple of hours my mom drifted off to sleep and we ate dinner. Roxy was quiet so was dad.

"Roxy, let's go pick out what you're wearing tomorrow,"

"Okay,"

After picking out a decent black dress for Roxy I bid her goodnight going to my room and picking out my own black dress.

I got into bed and cried myself to sleep.

Mom woke me up and I was shocked, but I guessed she wanted to get the funeral over with.

The funeral was a small affair and everyone was crying and sniffing. My mom went up to meet her daughter who sat in a corner of the room comforting her.

Aunt Kate's husband was called up on stage to give a eulogy, he got halfway before bursting into tears and excused himself.

My phone kept buzzing throughout the event but I ignored it.

On our way home I checked my messages and I had a dozen texts from Ana, Vivi, Coco and Justin. I tapped on our group chat and sent a message explaining why I was absent from school.

I had two messages from Lee about the same question everyone was asking and I sent him a reply before focusing on the buildings outside the window.

Once we got home I got out of the car along with Roxy before my dad told me he and my mom were going to head back to Aunt Kate's house.

My phone rang as I opened the door to my room and Justin's name popped up

"Hello?"

"Hey, how are you feeling?"

"I'm okay,"

"Sorry about what happened, Do you want me to come over?"

"Yeah," I sighed "My dad and mom are not home,"

"I'll be there in thirty," He replied and we continued talking on the phone until he got to my house.

I opened the door and Justin walked in with a box of doughnuts.

"That's a lot of calories," I frowned "But I'll take it," I smiled

"It's not just for you," he laughed "It's for Roxy too,"

"Pftt," I laughed

"Where is she?"

"She's in her room, let's go,"

I and Justin made our way to Roxy's room knocking before entering.

"Are you crying?" I asked

"No, I barely knew her jeez," Roxy rolled her eyes hoping off the bed and making her way to Justin to give him a hug

"Hey," he chuckled "I brought doughnuts,"

"Thanks," Roxy smiled flipping her hair behind her back

After handing Roxy some doughnuts I and Justin made our way to my room. Justin had only been to my room once, when he came to get his textbook from me about a year ago. My dad wasn't exactly comfortable with me having boys in my room.

My room was in a decent state so I plopped on the bed opening the doughnut box and picking out a doughnut whilst Justin looked around my room.

"Your room has changed a bit," He commented

"In a good or bad way?" I questioned

"Good," he smiled

I continued eating my doughnut while Justin looked around.

"What's this?" he frowned holding up the sticky note and I froze

"Thanks for letting me stay over, Had to leave early to avoid getting you in trouble, Lee,"

"Did he spend the night here?"
