The sun was setting, Wolfkit was sitting outside the nursery alone. Leafkit came out and joined her. "Hey, Leafkit..." Wolfkit mewed in a low tone. "Is something wrong Wolfkit?" Leafkit asked, Wolfkit didn't even look at Leafkit when she replied. "It's just... I haven't spoken to Flamekit in almost a moon, I wonder if he's an apprentice..." Leafkit could hear the sadness in her voice. She glanced around the clearing.
"Go see him" Leafkit mewed, Wolfkit's gaze shot to Leafkit and she stared at her, "I can't everyone will see me leave the camp," Wolfkit mewed, Leafkit smiled, "go out the backway, follow me" Leafkit got up and walked over to the dirt-place beside the nursery, Wolfkit followed close behind. When they got to the dirt-place Wolfkit saw a few bushes with bracken all over them but then she noticed a hole in the bushes leading outside of camp. "Go through there," Leafkit told her, "but what if someone asks where I am?" Wolfkit worried. "Don't worry, I'll make sure to make an excuse for you, now go before some-cat see's" Leafkit nudged her toward the hole. "Oh yeah, come back through this way, every-cat will think you just went to make dirt," Leafkit told her, Wolfkit nodded and slipped out of the hole and started to run toward the river between DawnClan and DuskClan. 'I hope he's there' Wolfkit thought to herself.
She had reached the river, she sat down and stared into the water. "This brings back memories..." she meowed to herself quietly. Wolfkit then closed her eyes and remembered the first time she and Flamekit met. When she opened her eyes she mewed, "this is stupid, why did I come out here? He's not gonna come" Wolfkit then got up, she turned and started padding away back to her camp. "Wolfkit?" A mew was heard from behind her, 'I know that voice...' she thought, she turned and saw a ginger cat standing on the other side of the river. "Flamekit!" She meowed, she padded back to the river and sat down, while Flamekit sat down on the other side.
"Flamekit, how have you been?" Wolfkit asked, she really wanted to know if he was now an apprentice. "I've been good, oh right I'm an apprentice now," he told her. Wolfkit's ears pricked, "that's awesome, so I guess I'll have to call you Flamepaw now huh" Wolfkit teased. Flamepaw smiled, "don't tease me Wolfkit, say how old are you?" He asked, "oh I'm five moons old" she replied. Flamepaw smiled again, "it won't be long until you become an apprentice" he mewed.
Wolfkit nodded, her ears then drooped and she stared into the water. " Are you okay Wolfkit?" Flamepaw asked, Wolfkit nodded, "yeah I'm fine It's just... I'm half rouge... Will TwilightClan accept me and my siblings as true apprentices because of our father...?" Wolfkit continued to stare into the water. "Your mother was a clan cat, meaning you have DuskClan blood, of course, they'll accept you" Flamepaw reassured her. She shook her head and looked up at him, "you're right, I shouldn't doubt myself over something I couldn't control" she meowed. Flamepaw nodded, "that's the spirit" he mewed back.
Back At Camp.
Leafkit was sitting in front of sharp-stones when Brightflight padded over to her. "Hey Leafkit" she mewed to the kit. Leafkit licked her paw and drew it over her ear then looked at Brightflight. "Hey Brightflight, what's up?" Leafkit asked, "not much, say your apprentice ceremony is coming up soon, are you excited?" She asked her, Leafkit jumped to her paws. "Of course I'm excited!" She mewed. Then she stared into Brightflight's eyes. "Brightflight, can I ask you something important?" Leafkit asked, Brightflight nodded, "of course, go ahead" Brightflight mewed. Leafkit took a deep breath then mewed, "can I become your apprentice?" she asked, Brightflight was shocked. "You wanna become my apprentice?" she asked, Leafkit nodded, "of course I wanna be your apprentice, I also wanna be a medicine cat because I wanna be able to help my clanmates if they are hurt and I wanna be able to walk with TwilightClan" Leafkit told her.
Brightflight was intrigued by Leafkit's confidence, "I'll think about it and get back to you tonight okay" Brightflight meowed and went over to the fresh-kill pile. Leafkit looked over at the nursery and saw Maplekit walking out. Maplekit was approaching her, "hey Maplekit" Leafkit called, Maplekit smiled and when she reached Leafkit she sat down beside her. "I saw you talking with Brightflight, are you sick?" Maplekit asked, Leafkit shook her head, "no I'm not sick, I was just asking her if I could be her apprentice" Leafkit told her sister. Maplekit then started laughing. "What's so funny?" Leafkit asked, "haha sorry sorry but you would never catch me being a medicine cat, I'd rather be out in the forest, hunting prey, marking bourders, going on patrols, all of it" Maplekit mewed. "You know if I was a medicine cat you would be coming to the den for help, meaning you would be coming to me" Leafkit bragged.
"Hey don't tease me, I'm just saying" Maplekit mewed, then stood up and tackled Leafkit. They rolled over each other until they came to a stop. Maplekit had Leafkit pinned down. "Ha try pinning me down" Maplekit mewed. "Seem's you two are having fun" A mew came from near them. Maplekit got off Leafkit and looked at where the mew came from. They soon realised they were in front of the elder's den. A tortoiseshell cat was laying in front of the elder's den. Their green eye's glowed with amusement. "Did we wake you us Patchfur?" Leafkit asked, the tortoiseshell shook her head, "no, I've been out here a while" she told the kits. "It's really cute that you two are getting along, me and my brother Tailwhisker never got along until we became elder's" Patchfur told the kits. "Are you the only elder out here at the moment?" Maplekit asked, Patchfur shook her head. "No, Thunderspark and Tailwhisker are at the fresh-kill pile, I'm just relaxing here" Patchfur mewed. "Can we hear a story from you Patchfur, please" Maplekit begged, Patchfur smiled, "haha, of course, I'm going to tell you the story of how half my ear got bitten off" the elder mewed. Maplekit and Leafkit were really intrigued.
Featherkit had exited the nursery and was now sitting against Sharp-stones. 'Leafkit know's something... but what...?' she thought to herself. Featherkit closed her eyes and tried to focus on Leafkit's mind but nothing was shown it was just darkness. She reopened her eyes, 'why did TwilightClan give me this power?' she thought to herself. 'I now understand how Wolfkit feels... different from others...'
