LUCAS
"...wait, so you're telling me that you see ghosts and I'm supposed to believe you?"
"Yes, Elliot James, I see ghosts. We've gone over this before."
"Please don't call me by my full name," Ellie sighed annoyedly over the phone, and I made an apologetic face, forgetting that expressions don't translate well over audio. "And who's going to make me believe this?"
"...Er... Chris? June?"
"Wait, so you told those two before you told me, your own girlfriend?!"
"I tried to, but you wou-"
"I can't believe you!"
"I..."
"You go around lying to me, acting like it's so cool that you're so fucking depressed, aww boo hoo! Little baby Luke can't figure out his life! Aww, am I a boy or a girl? Oh no! Better fucking kill myself to find out!"
"Ellie, please..."
"You know what? I can't take this shit! I went out with you because I needed a cute boy to hang around with and kiss, not some confused fag!"
"Please! Just stop it!"
"Aww look, now baby's crying again. What a bunch of bullshit. I hate you! It's over, Luke."...
The static after she hung up. The emptiness she left inside of me after we split. Nobody could fill that. Even now, I'd still think about her. She was my last girlfriend. I tried to tell her everything but it just... She didn't want to hear it.
"Lucas. Lucas. Hey." June said my name again, bringing me back to reality. "You were shutting off again, Lucas. You need to let it go. It's been so long since you two broke up."
"It's not that," I half-lied.
"What is it then?" She tucked a strand of that long, wavy black hair behind her ear and looked at me. "I wanna help."
"If you want to help, don't do anything at all."
I flopped onto the couch where Anne was absentmindedly running her hands through her hair. It was kind of interesting; she and June were opposites.
June: human, dark brown skin, wavy black hair, rounded, pear shaped figure, brown eyes.
Anne: pure white skin, straight white hair, pencil body, blue eyes, dead.ANNE
I was a ghost, and only Lucas could see me, but June acted like she could too. Granted, Lucas had to tell her what I said, but with them as the middleman, things worked out well. Surprisingly so, in fact.
When June talked to me, acting like I was nothing strange or different, it was a strange sensation. It made me feel almost... Human.
"You know, June, you have a real knack for communication," I said, and Lucas let her know.
"What do you mean?"
"You treat everyone normally. It's not like you're talking to them so they can tell me something, it's like we're both talking normally and Lucas is just like a telephone."
She laughed. "You hear that, Lulu?" She said, even though they were the one who technically said that to her, "You're a cell phone now!"
"Well, wonderful." They rolled their eyes.
It was a warm feeling. Like a family, in a way.***
A/N: This chapter started off with a flashback of Lucas's breakup with his former girlfriend, Ellie, who was mentioned in chapters 1 and 4. It also tells you about Lucas's near-death experience: attempted suicide. Remember that, it might be important later.
We also introduced June, Lucas's second-best friend, full of cute nicknames (freaking Lulu) and embarrassing stories about Lucas... She's a lesbian, btw. And a new viewpoint! Without further ado, maybe I should tell you all that YES, Anne is the ghost. Figured it might've been a little vague in the last chapter.
