"Dear Itachi,
I sit atop a cliff over a glistening stream, dangling my feet as I reminisce about our memories. Our love... your touch... your words... I miss all of it. I miss all of you. The reflection of the stars and moon in the stream compare nothing to the stillness of your scarlet eyes. The gentle kisses... I miss them.
Why did you leave me behind? Why did you let me fall for you if you knew? Was I even important to you? I guess I'll never know the answers to my neverending list of questions.
As I say this, I'm holding onto my enlarged stomach. Although I'm insecure about the new changes my body is going through, I'm happy I have a piece of you. Our child. It's here to remind me of you. Of our everlasting love.
"We'll be together forever. I won't ever leave you. I'll never let you go." Those were the lies you told me. Your lies. Beautiful yet deceiving. I knew they were too good to be true. I thought we would have a happily ever after together but I should've known that would never be possible. You had your sins and I had mine.
We both had our issues and ran away from them, finding a distraction instead of dealing with them. Maybe if we confronted them you would still be alive.
Please promise me one thing though, Itachi. Watch over me and our child from heaven."
I let a tear out as I read the letter aloud over the same cliff. I visited this place every month since it was close to where Itachi had died; the Uchiha hideout. My emotions came crashing as all the tears flushed themself out. "Itachi..." I cried.
I held onto my stomach, rubbing it. "What will I tell our child...?"
"I wouldn't know..." I felt a hand place itself on my shoulder. I suddenly jerked up, surprised. I looked beside me to find Itachi. He looked different. His sclera was black and he had cracks on his face. But it was still him. The handsome man I had fallen for over a year ago. His long black hair remained. Instead of wearing his usual cloak, he was wearing a completely red robe.
"I—itachi?!" I gasped calmly. "No... no... this is genjutsu."
"No... it is me."
"What? How are you alive?" I sobbed, wrapping my arms around him instantly. "You don't know how much I've missed you!"
He held me closely, savoring the hug more than I did. He inhaled, taking a whiff of my scent. "You smell like you always do... like a love-in-a-mist flower."
"The scent reminds me of you..." I smiled but then formed a frown. "You're a ghost, right?" I asked, realizing he wasn't actually here.
He nodded. "Well, you could say something like that. I've been reanimated by Kabuto. The Fourth Great Ninja War is going on... Are you not participating in it?"
I shook my head. "No, I'm clearly..." I pointed to my stomach.
"Right—" he blushed. "So... whose is it?" he asked, looking away because he was too shy to look me straight in the eyes.
"It's yours," I chuckled. He beamed. "That reminds me..."
"Hm?"
"How dare you go off and die just like that?! How could you leave me so suddenly?! I was broken! You don't know how many times I attempted to just—" I slapped him. His reanimated skin felt exactly like his original skin. His soft skin...
Itachi held his hands over his face. "Yikes— And you're still as feisty as ever—"
"I cry every day because of how much I miss you! You thought it was okay to leave me?!" my voice got choky as more tears came out.
"Y/n," he wrapped his arms around me once more. "I'm sorry. I'll make it up to you."
"How? You're dead..."
"You wanted me to watch over our child, right?" he asked rhetorically. "I'll protect it. Continuously, I'll be praying for it." He brought his lips near mine, brushing them up against mine. "But right now, I'm missing my child's mother even more."
"Itachi, you don't know how much I miss the feeling of your hands against mine."
"Me too... Maybe one day when we're together again, we can..." he said, not completing his sentence. He looked down at my lower quarter and back up at my face.
"Go on."
"Not in front of our child," he said, covering his face as he blushed harder. I chuckled at his small remark.
I looked over to the rocky cliff ground and back at his admiring eyes. "I'm guessing you have to go now..."
He nodded. "Yeah. I have to go stop Kabuto." He didn't move, though. He continued to stare at me lovingly. He sat beside me, placing a hand on mine. His arm folded around my waist as he kissed my cheek. We looked out into the distance, gazing at the flowing stream.
Every part of me wanted to tell him not to go. I wanted to say "Fuck this war. Fuck Kabuto. Why can't you just stay? If you stop him, you'll be gone again." But I didn't. I knew what had to be done to return the world to peace.
Itachi grabbed my hands, kissing both of them. Then he set his hand over my pregnant belly, rubbing it as he felt our baby. "Y/n... I'm sorry for leaving you."
"I forgive you..."
"I have to go but I'll say this like last time." He placed his hand on my cheek. "I love you and this baby. I'll look over you guys. And I'll wait for you in heaven."
"I'll be there soon." I kissed his hand once. He unwrapped his arms, walking to the edge of the cliff. I looked at him as he gracefully stood at the edge.
He glanced back at me once. "I love you..." he uttered before jumping down and speedily rushing into the forest. He was going to the place where Kabuto was.
It would be the last time I saw Itachi in my mortal life. I held my hands over my heart. "I love you too..."
