I went to the bathroom and almost fainted. Had I always been that pale? I'd been a creamy color. I looked like some exotic creature. She still had my big, round, brown eyes, high cheek bones, and small but pretty mouth. Then I looked at my forehead- Whoa! There was a crescent moon half-covering a star outline sitting smack in the middle. I looked so pale it'd be a good excuse that I'm sick. So, I went to the nurses office.

'Nurse Rosetta," I peeked inside. Oh, there she is. "Nurse Rosetta, I think I'm sick." She turned around.

'Oh! Ashlee... y-y-y-you're so pale," she exclaimed. "You usually glow like a shining moon." ( I love it when she says that. ) "What's that on your forehead?"

"Oh, nothin'. Just, uh, markers." I said.

She nodded uncertainly. "Do you want me to call your mom?" I shook my head. "Well OK."

On my way home, I called my mom. "Ashlee, what are you doing? You're not suppose to have your phone out in class!"

"Oh, mom," I said. "I've been marked so I have to go to Dark Night. But of course I don't have my mark filled in yet.' She gasped.

"Oh my, oh my, oh my! Are you OK? Does it hurt? How do you feel." she asked.

"Wow, you ask a lot of questions!"

"Sorry just come home okay."

"K, bye." I hung up.

Knock, knock. "Mom it's me!"

She opened the door. "Heavens! I thought you said 'But of course I don't have my mark filled in yet.' Am I right?" I looked at her crazy.

"Of course it hasn't. There was nothing but me and my pale complexion and the outline of the mark, when I looked in the mirror," I said.

"If you say so, but you should still go check." I went upstairs, dumped my backpack on my bed and went into the bathroom.

"HOLY COW!" The mark almost covered half of my face. She hadn't told me everything. The crescent moon and star were violet. Then there was a delicate swirl of lace-like violet tattooing framing my eyes. Stretching from my neck, down my right shoulder, all the way down to my fingers were sapphire tattoos in a swirly, ocean wave pattern. They looked foreign, dark, mysterious, ancient- almost like Greek symbols or something.

"Wow, it's beautiful" I almost wet myself. I turned around.

"Jeez sis. Stop scaring me like that!" She made a pouty face. Typical.

"Sorry. I wish I was a vamp."

"Uh, thanks?"

"Lates!" And she walked out.

"Mom, dad.!"

"Yes honey," Mom answered.

"Remember that boy I like? Well he asked me out and we go on to the movies on Friday. Is that okay?"

"Sure honey," Mom said.

"Thanks!" I said practically skipping to my room.
