"Can I ask you your name?"

It's the first thing they ever said in sync. It was during the first time that Taki spoke to Mitsuha, or at least for as far as he could remember; there's something they have in common, somewhere they met before, but neither of them can even remember a second of what's buried deep inside their minds.

From the moment the two introduced themselves to each other, they've quickly become closer.

Within just a couple of days Taki felt like he'd known Mitsuha for his entire life even though he still didn't know much about her; he just got to know that Mitsuha was from Itomori, the town that disappeared when the comet split nine years ago, and that she's been living in Tokyo ever since. A few things about the job she's doing, working in a shop as a saleswoman, and that she feels the same way as he does; like they know each other so much better than they actually do.

And after just a week had passed, Taki knew his feelings for her were real. They took a walk on the day they met and talked a little, and Taki hasn't been able to get Mitsuha out of his head. He'd gradually even have dreams about when he was younger, strange dreams like him living Mitsuha's life in Itomori; which is completely impossible of course.

Two days ago, the dreams and the constant thinking about Mitsuha became unbearable.

For his entire life Taki was single because he wanted to be, but he asked Mitsuha out after just knowing her for two weeks. And she said "yes" right away, so today will be their first date.

Taki wakes up more nervous than ever. He's even more nervous about this date than he was for his first job interview, which failed because he was so nervous, so let's hope this date doesn't flop.

He splashes some water in his face and combs his hair. He puts on a suit, eventually deciding that it might be a better idea to just wear a t-shirt and jeans.

By the time he's finally able to leave, he'll have to run to reach the little restaurant where he and Mitsuha will be having their first date in time. And obviously he does so, jogging all the way to the restaurant where he's eaten so many times with his two best friends, just so he won't be too late.

He sees her standing at the restaurant's entrance already, and she quickly spots him too. He goes from jogging into casually walking towards the three year older woman, he needs to make it seem like he left his house in time for their date while actually he didn't.

"Sorry," he says when reaching Mitsuha. He's trying not to gasp for breaths, but how can he not when he's just run for such a long time. "Did I have you waiting for long?"

Mitsuha giggles and says Taki doesn't have to worry. "I've just arrived myself."

Taki isn't sure whether it's true or just the most socially desirable answer, but he likes to think that Mitsuha also left the house a little too late just like he did. Maybe if she's just as bad with keeping track of time as Taki is, they'd be a good match, because neither of them would have to wait.

Taki smiles, telling her he's glad she didn't have to wait too long. After that he opens the door for Mitsuha, like the gentleman he is, and followers into the little restaurant.

"I've actually never been here," Mitsuha tells Taki as they take a seat at one of the tables. "I mean, I feel like I've been here before, but I haven't."
