Blood, fear, and pain. Those were the first things that I noticed when I opened my eyes. I tried to sit up but a hand on my chest stopped me. "Don't move, you've been stabbed." I looked over to see a figure kneeling next to me. It was too dark for me to see who it was, and the voice was unfamiliar to me. "Who are you?" my voice rasped. The man sighed deeply as if the question was a nuisance to him. "Who I am does not matter." His voice rumbled in his throat, "all that matters now is that you survive this war." He began to slowly heal my wounds with an experienced hand. The words of magic flowing out of his mouth like a song. I was mesmerized by his voice, by the way that his hand moved gently down my body. One of his arms cradled me like I was precious and needed to be protected. A loud explosion suddenly brought me back to the fact that we were in the middle of a war. "How are we fairing?" my mind suddenly back to my people. "We are getting overrun; we need our commander better and back on the front lines." The man said. I glanced down at my body and watched the skin weave back together and the blood disappear as if it was never there. "You must be a sorcerer with your ability to heal." I stated. The man looked at me his features now illuminated by the flames in his hand, a slight smirk on his face. "My you are a preceptive one Captain," I could hear the sarcasm dripping from his voice, "yes in fact I am, but we have no time to chat now." He picked me up and put me on my feet. "let's go Captain, there is a war to win."
The second the man was sure I could stand on my own he grabbed my hand and began to run. "Wait, at least tell me your name so I can properly thank you" I said to the man. He heaved another sigh and looked up at the heavens coming to a stop. "You are a persistent one Captain." The man turned his head slightly with that ever-present smirk on his face that kind of pissed me off. "My name is Xavier Knight," his eyes sparked with mischief "pleased to be of service." That cocky look of his was really starting to get on my nerves, and I couldn't figure out why. "Thank you for healing me, Xavier, my name is Roselda Delahare." I said trying to keep the annoyance out of my voice. Xavier chuckled obviously I didn't do a very good job. "Well, if you are done with your questions we should prepare for battle, my Captain." He said as he placed a soft kiss to the back of my hand. I felt my face heat up and I pulled my hand away quickly. I looked over the battle lines and saw my people getting overrun by the Sathder, non-magic people. "You are right Xavier this is no time for conversations my people are dying, and they need help."
I ran full speed to the front of the battle and projected my voice using magic. "Eshains we shall not be overrun; stand firm and we will push these Sathders back to their homelands" A roar went up in the crowed and my people seemed to be re-energized. "Pogalz" I screamed as a ball of lightning began to grow in my hands. I then threw the energy forward and the lightning shot from my hand- and wiped-out thousands of the enemy. Magic and energy raged across the battlefield, and we began to gain ground. Pushing these vile people from our lands. These people who did not belong and threated to take all that we had earned. I let the anger in my body fuel the magic from within and make it more powerful. I wanted these people gone I wanted my home safe. These people did not belong here.
Suddenly a great ball of white, hot energy tore through the middle of the battlefield and a powerful voice yelled. "Stop this useless battle at once!" Everyone froze and an eerie silence filled the once loud field of violence. In the middle of the field the 12 members of the Council of the Elders, and the 12 members of the Temple of Order. They were the leaders of both sides of this war, The Council of Elders lead the people of Eshain, While the Temple of Order lead the people of Dol Salzian. One of the elders stepped forward and spoke in a loud voice. "There has been too much bloodshed," his voice was racked with pain "too many people have died in this useless war." He looked around at the blood that covered the barren field. "We have come to an agreement with the leaders of Dol Salzian." At those words one of their leaders stepped forward and the elder cast a spell to make his voice project to us. "We have decided to end the war and place a magical barrier between our two countries, there shall be no more bloodshed on either side" His words sent a shock through the ranks as if he had used magic himself, but that was impossible. The elder began to speak again "This action will take place immediately both sides are ordered to take their wounded and deceased with them and wait for further instructions." His voice resonated through the ranks and with a crackle of energy all 24 leaders disappeared from the field.
Everyone on both sides still stayed frozen, no one dared to move. I felt someone stand to my left side and whisper in my ear. "Captain, you need to lead our people to safety now." I recognized the voice, it was Xavier. He was right, I needed to move and gather those who needed help. I used magic to hover a little higher over my people. "Eshains, gather our wounded and help those who cannot walk" I tried to keep my voice cool and calm "Fall back to camp and tend to the wounded this war is over." As soon as the command left my lips people began to move. The strong helping the weak, supporting those who could not support themselves. I heard distant shouts from the other side as the Sathder began to gather their wounded and fall back to their base. When I walked back into the camp, I saw the council members standing there waiting for me. This is how a century long war came to an end and a new era of peace began.
