High school. The deadliest concept ever created. I don't care what anyone else says otherwise. It makes all other tragedies and pain look like a god sent gift. You disagree? Well here, let me change your mind.
Let's start with the fact that school increases your stress levels and any possible depression, especially for people who don't fit in, making suicide and self harm a popular alternative these days, so telling me that school HASN'T killed anyone would be a god damn lie. Second of all, no matter how many laws are passed on LGBT rights, cyber bullying, or your run of the mill stuff-a-dork-in-a-locker old school bully, there will ALWAYS be shit heads out there waiting to make your life a living hell, with high school being their hunting ground. But I digress.
My name is Lucas, and I'm an addict.
...okay, me being an addict may have been a complete lie, but with the whole rant going on earlier I just sort of felt like that's where I was going with it. Anywho...my name really is Lucas, and I'm not an addict...unless you count being addicted to dick...in that case I guess you could sign me up for rehab. That's right, I'm gay. And don't worry, it's not some big internal conflict that I just recently realized. No. I've known I was gay since I was in middle school and got turned on while watching my friend shower in the locker room, needless to say, we haven't been really close since then. But that was then, and this is now.
And right now, I am currently sitting in the cafeteria of hell listening to my 'friend' Kennedy ramble on about God knows what...
"So? Do you think I should get boob job or what Luke-y~?" Kennedy chimed as she leaned against my shoulder.
"What the hell? Why would you get a boob job? And why the fuck would I care?" I asked irritated while swirling the liquid mashed potatoes that were on my tray, cringing at all the un-edible food.
"I swear to god Luke, you never pay any attention to me. And what do you mean 'why would I care?' HELLLOOOOO you're my boyfriend. Pretty soon you're gonna be feeling these baby's up, so I'd expect you to care how big they are duhhhh."
Oh yeah. I forgot that I was dating her...oops. Yeah, I haven't exactly come out of the closet yet. To ANYONE.
"...um you're perfect just the way you are?" I practically asked, not sure what she wanted to hear at the moment.
"Aww baby I love you!" She exclaimed with hearts practically coming out of her eyes.
"Mmm these are good mashed potatoes.."
"........."
And right before I got castrated by my cheerleading girlfriend everyone who usually sat at our table started to arrive.
"Eyy Luke, you miss me babe?" Andrew greeted, taking his seat next to me while playfully winking at me and hitting my arm, which still hurt considering how strong he was. Now Andrew here was the quarterback of our prestigious football team. So now that you know that I'm dating a cheerleader and my best friend is the quarterback, you can start to guess what type of people I hang with.
"Hey" I said in response while practically begging him to save me from Kennedy using my eyes.
"Hey man, there was someone I wanted to introduce you to. He's the new kicker on our team and just started up school here a couple of days ago." And then all of a sudden a guy came out of no where and sat across from me at our table. This was a huge deal. Not just anyone could sit at our table, so for a newbie to sit hear must mean that he has great potential, good looks, and be an amazing athlete. I mean, how else are you supposed to live life without the validation of your peers?
"Hi, my name is Damon" the new guy said quite shyly.
Every fiber of my being felt off. There was something about the way that this guy held himself that made me so...scared? Uncomfortable?....whatever it was, I didn't like it. He was just too mysterious. This Damon guy didn't look like the typical guy to play football. He wasn't your average beefy jock, but rather tall and lanky...he was unusual. And something about that completely draws me in...I still don't like it.
What the hell is this feeling?
"Hi, I-I...I'm Lucas, but you can call me Luke." Was all I could mumble out in response.
The fuck was that? Did I just stutter? I never stutter! Hell, I never get nervous. Shit. People can probably notice. And my prediction was right. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see that Andrew was giving me a weird look. I would say that Kennedy was also giving me a weird look, but let's be real here, that girl has her head so far up her ass that she wouldn't realize if she had just gotten hit with a bus. Hey, that doesn't sound like a bad idea. Anyone know where I could find a bus?
After that awkward incident the rest of lunch was spent like it normally was, the guys talk about football, the girls bitch about the other girls in our school, while I tried to think about the proper way to eat a Twinkie...don't judge. But the entire time I still felt a little off.
Lunch was finally over and we were all making our way to our next class, which for me meant sitting through the torture which is Shakespeare.
I walked into class and took my normal seat in the back with some other people who were in the "in crowd". And right before the bell rang, Damon walks through the door. Great. And to my luck, the teacher directed him to the empty seat right next to me which I use as a nice resting place for my books and feet. Dammit, where am I gonna put all my crap now!?
"Hey it's Luke right?" The newbie asked, having the balls to talk to me.
"Yeah."
"Sorry, but with all these names I'm still learning, but don't worry, I'll remember yours by heart soon enough."
The fuck that supposed to mean boy?
"Alright, cool." I said simply in response. Hey, it's not like I care whether he remembers it or not, it's not like I'll be needing to spend any time with him anyways.
"Okay, that leaves Lucas and Damon as partners..." My teacher said going on about some random shit. What the hell? Did fate hate me? Can it read my fucking mind? Damon must have distracted me while she assigned us a project. And really!? HE has to be my partner of all people. Well it's not like it can get any worse.
"...now remember, you and your partner will need to meet outside of school to work on this project because it will take a while to get done."
Shit.
