marlene mckinnon x rosalind bancroft !

strangers to enemies to friends to lovers to faded memories

⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯

marlene mckinnon just wants to help, not realizing how fast rosalind bancroft runs away from it. especially when it's coming from her.

summary

rosalind bancroft was a coffee addict.

everyone who had even heard of her knew of that fact. it was the first thing that came to mind when someone brought up her name in a conversation. "oh rosalind bancroft, the coffee addict?" "yes, that dear rosalind, you never see her without a cup of coffee in her hands, do you?". no one really knew why she was so attached to the caffeinated beverage; to them, there was no need for a reason. she just... was.

when sirius black asked rosalind why she drank so much coffee and told her that was probably the reason she was so short, she didn't talk to him for a month. which, if you were anyone, that was already an impressive feat, considering the boy was everywhere, but rosalind was not just anybody; she was his best friend, the only female marauder. so no one ever asked her again.

safely locked inside the bathroom of the 5th year ravenclaw dorm room, rosalind could finally tell the version of herself shown in the shattered mirror that she hated the taste of coffee. but she loved the effect of it.

she loved how jittery it made her feel, so she could lose focus of things she didn't want to think of and focus on things that she did. she loved how the bitter taste of black coffee on her tongue left her hating herself enough not to reach for the knife hidden under her stack of clothes in her trunk. but most importantly, she loved how coffee stopped her from sleeping. because in sleep, she doesn't have the strength to turn away from her demons as she does when she's awake.
