Cadiann's Pov:

“Mom! Stop!” I cry as she pushes me down, knees first into frozen peas and rice, making me wear a backpack filled with bricks.
“Well maybe next time young lady, you will know not to commit a sin in this house!”  she yells, pushing the backpack further into me.
“How did I commit a sin? I was looking at social media like everyone else.”
“You were looking at women, women who in God's eyes are Unholy. Also, not only were you lusting but you were lusting over women, sinful women.”
But how is this fair?  men “lust” over me all the time,”
“You should be lucky that they even look at you, it is your job as a woman to give them pleasure, not be all high and mighty. If they want something, you say yes.”
“But I am not just a sex toy. My body is for me and my pleasure only!” I yell in her face.
Slap!
She slaps me in the face.
“Your body is for anybody who wants it! I will not raise an ungrateful, lusting, faget of a daughter in this house. Do you understand me?”
I don't answer her.
she grabs me by my  jaw, her nails digging into my skin
“I said, DO.YOU.UNDERSTAND.ME. She yells in my face, I feel drops of her spit land.
“Yes, Mother.”  I bow my head to her.
“Leave, I don't want to see you right now.”
I stand up,  dusting off my knees.  I have to pick peas and rice from my knee because it is stuck from being there so long. My knees burn, the red and sore, you can see the indentation from the  peas and rice, red and irritated. I can see tiny blood vessels popping through. I  pull up my pants, covering my knees. I move up to my shoulders, we're thankful  the backpack is now gone.  my shoulders are inflamed. They look like burn marks, millions of bruises covering them. I changed my shirt to a white button-up. I've learned from past punishments that button-ups work best for my injuries. Their thin enough to not put pressure on them, but opaque enough to cover them.

I’m walking in the upper class neighborhood for ice cream, it’s better than my neighborhood. Now I know it sounds weird, “why would someone go to a different neighborhood for ice cream?” But, “Robby’s ice cream truck” Is some of the best ice cream in town. It's better than parlor ice cream. Plus, the people here aren’t so bad. Ms. Macy is always offering me new materials for me to make new art projects. The local high school basketball team always asks me to play with them. That way I don’t feel weird playing a sport with a disability. All in all, they are good people.
I go to order my ice cream, already having my order in mind. But, I stopped.
There’s a little boy sitting on the sidewalk, he looks about six or seven years old. I walk closer to him, just to see if he’s ok.
“Hey, buddy. Are you ok?”
He looks up at me, his eyes are glassy and red.
“No, me and my family wanted to get ice cream but me and my siblings wanted to see who could get there first. I think I made a wrong turn,” He tells me.
“Well, I could help you if you want? What’s your name?”
I get down on his level.
“Daelo.” He says.
“Hey, Daelo. I’m Cadiann. How about we get some ice cream and then I will help you find your family, does that sound good? I ask.
Daelo shows me a small smile, he grabs my hand and pulls us towards the ice cream truck.
“Hey, Mr.Robby. Can I get some ice cream for me and my friend here?” I say.
Robby leans over the ice cream truck window, looking down at Daelo.
“What's up little man, the usual for both of you?”
me and Daelo nod our heads, Daelo making sure to show his toothy smile.
I pull out my wallit to pay, but Daelo stops me.
“I can pay for mine.” Daelo tells me, putting his hand in his pocket.
“It’s ok, buddy, don’t worry about it.”
Mr.Robby gives us our ice cream, Daelo grabs on to my pant leg as we eat our ice cream.
“Thank you, Cadiann.”

Me and Daelo have been looking for his family for the past 15 minutes, I look down at Daelo and his lip is wobbling.
“Don’t be sad, Dae. I’m sure your family is close by.” I try to reassure him
“Dae!”
“Daelo!”
“Daelo! where are you?”
I turn around and see three people, a tall bald guy covered in tattoos, A lady that I'm guessing is his wife, and a boy, maybe about my age. I'm guessing he's one of Daelo’s siblings.
Daelo runs to the woman I presume is his mom, he leaps into her arms, hugging her tight. I go to walk away but I feel a tiny hand grab mine and pull me forward.
“Mama! This is Cadiann.  She got me ice cream and was trying to help me find you. Cadiann, this is my mom, my dad, and my brother, Jaden.” Daelo introduces me to his family.
“Thank you for trying to get him home and for Buying him ice cream. I'm Jessica, Jessica Walton. This is my husband, DJ Walton.” She introduces herself to me as she points to her husband.
“Yeah, thank you for watching him. I should have paid more attention to him.”  Daelo’s  brother chimes in.
“No problem, I just wanted to make sure he was okay.”
“Do you need help getting back home?”  Daelo’s dad asked me.
“I actually live across town, I just come here to get ice cream.”
Mrs. Waltons face becomes worried.
“Do you want a ride home?” she asked me.
No. my mom would hate me.
“No thank you, I'll be fine.” I try to convince her.
“Are you sure? it's been at least an hour and a half since you've probably had a snack. At least come with us to get something to eat,” She begs me.
I'm not allowed to have any food unless my mom gives it to me.
if I had any food that she didn't agree to or made herself, she  would make me throw it up.
She thinks I'm too fat.
  My thighs are too thick.
But I don't want to make Jessica worried.
“A snack sounds good, I'll call my mom when we get there.”
