Hunter

When you read the title ‘Hunter’ you probably picture a guy with a gun in the forest about to kill a defenseless animal. What if I say that wasn’t the type of hunter I was talking about? An animal’s born instinct to survive and hunt other creatures to feed off? No, actually I’m thinking of a cross between the two. No! Not a bunny with a gun!

What I’m talking about is a magical creature. Not something like the tooth-fairy, she doesn’t exist. (Sorry to those who still believe in her, but you had to learn the truth sooner or later). I mean magic-magic, like fairy magic.

A magical creature Hunter is very rare and usually lives in the forest, not a lot of people have seen them but those who have either didn’t live or just barely got away alive. However, those who have saw told people. People would just shrug them aside thinking they were crazy or had some mental problems, but they don’t know what others know; they don’t know the truth.

I’ve never seen one myself, but I heard personally from others who have. Supposedly the maximum height they grew was two feet, they have a multi-colored shade of fur, razor sharp claws and teeth, glowing red eyes and always carry a weapon. Also, once they find their target, they never stop or rest until they capture and kill it. They mostly kill for food or self-defense, but you never know, they could change their mind. I don’t mean that they change their mind on eating habits like instead of animals; they order take-out Chinese or something.

I remember a story of two childhood friends encountering a Hunter face to face. I wonder how they survived…

One day childhood friends Mat and Claire were walking through the forest on a bright spring day.

Mat was sixteen, tall and lean with dark brown eyes and matching dark brown hair, with red streaks through it. He was still wearing his school uniform which consisted of a white shirt, black pants, and an orange and black striped tie with a pair of converse.

On the other hand, Claire was sixteen as well but a not so tall girl with gold eyes and amber hair. She as well was wearing her uniform which was almost the same with the white shirt, striped tie but had a black and orange skirt with black boots. Don’t let her looks fool you; she practically gives the definition of dumb blonde. I don’t understand how they were friends since Mat was a straight A student, but that will be a mystery left to be unsolved.

As to why they were in the forest? Well they were bored and free, so they thought ‘What the heck? Why not, right? What could it hurt to just stroll for a little while in the forest?’ Well, they were about to find out.

“Claire, how was your world history exam?” Mat asked out of sheer boredom.

“I flunked,” she replied.

“You know your mom is going to kill you, right?”

“She’s still trying to get over my dad’s sudden death, she won’t mind.”

“That was two years ago!”

“I know…”

Their conversation ended abruptly as they heard a rustle in the bushes. Mat and Claire backed away from the bush slowly, keeping their eyes intensely on it.

As the bush shook lively, suddenly a little blue fur ball rolled out. Once it was completely out, the ball stood up on its legs, extended its arms unsheathing its claws. As they saw its face, it instantaneously opened its eyes revealing piercing red orbs. Claire yelped, but Mat stayed composed and unshaken.

“That is so fake,” Mat commented.

“It’s cute!” Claire squealed.

“Claire, in what angle is that even considered cute?”
