Chapter 3
“Your father was not the founder, but more like the developer of this branch” said general Brandon handing me a cup of sweet coffee.
“He transformed this branch of the Air force and literally made it self sufficient, from just a gifted combat squad, he developed a whole science department, a gifted aeronautic department, we even have a space department.”
I was astonished, even I didn’t know about this “How can the government keep all this a secret?”
The man chuckled but did not provide an answer.
“Look here boy; techniqually this industry is all yours. This is why you’re being admitted; otherwise we wouldn’t even look at you. I mean a 52%...” he did not finish the sentence, but I knew what he meant.
Silence overwhelmed the room and taught flooded my brain. In one side I hate fighting, I hate the armed forces, but on the other hand this very could be an opportunity to learn about my father. My soul told me yes, my heart told me yes and yet I fought against it.
“What do I get out of this?” I asked him.
A grin grew on his face; perhaps he thought he had me, but not me. He’ll have to fight to get me to accept.
“Well…you will get the info you desperately want, experience, liberty and…” As he was speaking he slowly walked back to his desk. The confidence the felt was obvious and it made me sick, my patience has never been of high quality.
“This…” He said pointing at a remote place towards the wall. I turned to look at what he pointed at. In an instant the wall popped and shot forward, spun 180 degrees and popped right back in. The HTV or holographic television turned on and the 3D image appeared suspended in mid-air. Using the air as a keyboard he went into his files and opened a folder named “Za14”. The HTV took a minute to load and the man said
“Behold”
On the hologram a plane appeared.
People often compare these planes to those made at the start of the century, but they are horribly wrong. Yes those planes where advanced, exceeding speeds over the speed of sound, but compared to these, those where only toys!
These babies can do so much more than break the sound barrier. Instead babies like these can go to space, to the moon and back without breaking a sweat. Each one made specifically for each pilot. They are packed with electromagnetic shields; laser targeting, un-imaginable maneuver capabilities, G-force stabilizers and my father’s own Ty drive which is…
“Hello! Miguel are you ok?” said the man breaking my train of taught.
“Yes, sorry continue” I rubbed my eyes, but noticed that I was standing, and right in front of me the hologram.
“How did I…”
“The model ZA type 14, constructed by your father”
“By whom?” it struck me like a bullet, but he continued to talk
“For years we have tried to find a suitable pilot, but we have yet to find one. That is until you came along! The type 14 was the last plane your father built, Miguel!”
I couldn’t speak, pressure built up on my chest, enabling me to breath. I was afraid to blink and my hands shook.
“Does this really exist?” The man noticed and helped me towards the chair.
“Listen and don’t talk!” He said, expressing his irritation. The Ty drive, the single most important accomplishment that my father is accredited for other than ending the war, its rather simple, an yet difficult. The Ty is simply a biological software, you can say a cross between machine and biological, what happens is that a newly, well experienced pilot gets a sample of DNA taken from him, this DNA is used to create the Ty drive, the Ty drive is a sort of personal computer, it only responds to its master, that being the person from which the DNA comes from. The drive performs all tasks imaginable and is unique in design. Theoretically is a living machine, the first of its kind, obviously created by my father.
“Now! I know you have been lied about your father. I know they told you that nothing was left. But face the truth Miguel, this is not something you could have taken home” He took a momentary break and sipped something from a glass. “Your father had two great successes, first was his own plane the ZA1 and the second which is this one the ZA14, because the ZA1 was annihilated, it just leaves the ZA14, AKA the most advanced plane in EXISTENCE!” he said with a somewhat comical, yet overly exited voice.
“There has not been close to turning this on! And thus we don’t know anything about what it can do”
“Why” I said starring at the bright light which made up the image.
“Again, we don’t know, it seems…”
“No! Why has nobody ever told me?” Anger Rose within me and fed on the sadness.
“Miguel, you have to understand that you where young when all this happened” He lowered his voice in an attempt to make me feel better.
“Still! I have the right to know!”
“Look, only your father and mother knew about this and only the top notch pilots are allowed to see it. We did it to hide the specimen!” He raised his voice, but mines overpowered.
“I need to think, I’ll call you with my decision!”
“Wait but…” he stopped mid-way on the sentenced and changed his mind “Very well!” I began to walk away, I could feel the rage within me, it manifested on my ears like pooling blood, turning them red.
“Here” He screamed just as I turned to catch a business card.
“Make sure to call me!” I didn’t answer and just kept on walking. Just as I reached for the door the assistant came in gasping for breath. Matilda the assistant walked me out the offices and right before the elevator closed she said “Good luck”.
