CHAPTER 1

"Where is he?!" I said to myself as I waited outside the club. "He told me he'd be here at 12!"

My phone's clock currently read 12:35 am and I wanted nothing more than to be home in my own bed. I never usually go to clubs, its not really my forte, but because it was one of my closest friend, Meg's, birthday, I reluctantly accepted the invitation. The party was still going strong (12:30 in the morning being "too early" for Meg) but I couldn't take anymore of the sweaty and drunk atmosphere of a night club party. Once a middle aged male grinded his perspiring body onto my own, without my permission, I knew it was time to call it a night.

I grabbed my phone out of my black leather clutch and quickly dialed my best friend, Sean's number. Waiting for him to pick up, I impatiently tapped my wedge into the concrete outside the club. Soon enough, the ringing had stopped, signaling that someone answered, yet there was no greeting. All I could make out was the song "Chocolate" by the 1975 blaring in the background and faint laughter.

"Hello?" I said confused.

"H-hi" A male's voice said with following laughter.

"Sean?" I said "Sean where are you?! You told me you'd be here to pick me up for 12!"

"Oh.." He said. "But I have to pick up my friend Maggie."

I furrowed my brow, knowing I'm the Maggie he has to pick up. I knew right from his first "Hi" that he was trashed. Sean had a problem with drinking in the past and knew he wasn't supposed to be drinking at all, but why would he listen to anyone willing to help him? As long as he had a cold beer in hand, he was satisfied, which made me slightly nervous.

"I am Ma-Sean, are you drunk?!" My follow up question was more rhetorical than anything, because the two of us both knew the answer to it.

"Uh no." He said almost proudly, causing my blood to boil. "But I got to go I'm supposed to pick up Maggie."

I stomped my foot obnoxiously with a groan, causing the man at the club door to give me a strange look. I smiled awkwardly at him before walking a good distance away, leaving me to yell at Sean in a more private area.

"Sean! Sean don't you dare drive when you're wasted and you're not even supposed to be drinking and!.."

I heard the phone start beeping signaling he had hung up on me.

I groaned loudly as I shoved my phone back into my clutch. I looked at my phone for the time, which now said 12:43 a.m.

"Damn it!" I said loudly. Cursing to Sean for being idiot, but also to myself because now I had to walk to the nearest bus stop in four inch heels. It was only about three miles, but I still prayed that I'd see a taxi on the way, because I hated the bus, and, well walking in heels.

I started on my miserable way, pulling my jacket in closer to me, trying to shield myself from the crisp October wind. I had made it about four blocks, when I started to feel like I was being followed. I was never usually one to be scared of many things, but I felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand up as soon as one spoke.

"Hey Brien." A male said from behind me, but I didn't dare turn around. His voice was deep, and his slurred words made me even more aghast than I thought I could be in this situation.

"Yeah Bobby?"

"You see that girl over there?"

I immediately picked up pace, knowing that i was "that girl" they were drunkenly talking about. Not to mention the fact that I was outnumbered.

"Yeah."

"She looks a little young to be walking home by herself."

"She looks about twelve."
