Everything about Brielle's life was what every woman dreamed of. A beautiful house in a nice, middle class neighborhood, stay at home mom to four children, good relationship with her sister, and good friends.
Her only problem was her incompetent husband, Bruce. Sure he had a job and made it home to dinner every night, but somehow they still struggled to keep their bills paid. And she struggled even more to look at him and say she loved him every morning.
"Hey, go brush your teeth. Wipe her face." Brielle calmly told her two middle children, Reece and Hailee. Reece taking the liberty to color on his sister's face minutes before they needed to leave for school.
"Did you find your homework?" She then asked Finley, her eldest. "And you, my little friend, you need pants." She continued to her youngest, Annie. After assuring everyone was on track to getting read for school she quickly walked back into the kitchen to finish making their bagged lunches.
Finley walked into the kitchen, taking a seat on the island stool, "Mom, can I stay home from school today?" There was no way anyone was staying home with what her day had planned, "Nobody's staying home." She simply stated.
"I feel sick." He tried to play into Brielle's emotions. "What hurts?" She questioned, still trying to manage to make the lunches and assure her other three kids were listening. "My spleen." Her eyebrow raised up in confusion, but quickly laughed off his failed attempt to skip school. "Specificity is good, but that's over the top. Next time, try tummy."
"It's go time. Let's go." Bruce yelled out, walking down the stairs with a cup of coffee in hand and an undone tie.
"Okay, everyone's going to school. Mommy has something important to do." She further elaborated on Finley's earlier question. The TV was on playing in the background grabbing the kids attention. "Guy's look. Daddy's on TV again."
"So what are you waiting for? A pig to fly?" A car sales lady questioned on the TV while Bruce came into frame wearing a pig costume. Bruce quickly turned off the TV that all the kids were eagerly watching.
"All right, let's go. Line up. Train's a-leavin'." He affirmed, swaying his hand over to Brielle who was waiting for the kids to take their sacked lunches.
"Love you." They each said while grabbing their lunches. "Love you, bye." Brielle returned to each of them. She then handed Bruce the last bagged lunch she had. "Love you." He said, with a smile on his face.
"Tuna fish. Keep it in the fridge." Brielle answered back with a returned smile. Going back into the kitchen to clean up the dishes while Bruce took the kids to school.
Once she left the house cleaned, that would later get destroyed in seconds of her kids stepping a foot in the door she anxiously got in her minivan and drove to fine&frugal. Any other day she would be glad to go there, shop, no kids, just her. But this wasn't any other day. This would be what gave her a step ahead in bills or land her in jail.
Her sister, Wanda's car speeded through the back parking lot. Which was heard before the car came into view with how ancient it was. She parked it beside Brielle's, with the windows lowered showing their friend Laura also in the car with her.
"I cannot believe you." Brielle stated opening the door to her minivan.
"Chill, sis. I'm, like, two minutes late." Wanda countered nonchalantly, unbuckling her seatbelt. Everyone exited out circling around the trunk of Wanda's car. "How was Lila's thing?" Brielle asked Laura.
"Oh, she was so good!" Laura answered back excitedly at her daughter's speech she gave about women empowerment that morning. "She's so smart," Brielle assured Laura. "I worry about mine." Laura let out a chuckle, "Ah, stop it."
