                                                                                            Pheonix

I stood at the edge of the barrier looking down at the papers in my hand sighing deeply. Why I had come here I had no idea. Maybe there was something inside me that made me want to believe that there was some truth to his words, maybe I wanted to understand what he did, or maybe I was just losing my mind. It was more likely a combination of the three.

I shook my head and looked up at the barrier once more, out of the corner of my eye I saw a girl on the other side of the barrier I quickly ducked behind some bushes and tried to stay as quiet as possible. I didn't need to be seen by one of them or I would end up like him. The girl turned her head to where I was just standing, and I thank all that is good that I was able to hide in time.

I took this time to look at the girl on the other side and had to hold my breath. She was stunning, her hair was a fiery red that hung in loose waves, reaching her lower back. She was short 5'3" at most, she was wearing a deep purple dress with intricate designs swirling throughout it in a vibrant blue thread.  her face was fair she had a slight tan but what had made me almost gasp was her eyes they were a silvery grey with what looked like a burst of red around the pupil. It looked like a great ball of fire exploded and then was frozen in place. All too soon she turned and walked away, I stayed where I was too stunned to move,

I shook my head once more and realized it was almost fully dark I cursed and quickly began to run home. My mother was going to ask questions, but those I can survive.

I waved at others I passed in the village but kept moving forward as quickly as I could. I soon reached my home and quickly went inside,

"Pheonix, sweetheart is that you?" I heard my mother call from the kitchen

"Yes, Ma it's me." My mother walked out of the kitchen a smile on her face. My mother was a beautiful woman she had shorter dark brown hear a clear face and bright blue eyes.

"It's late where did you go?" She asked tilting her head to the side.

"Only out for a walk ma, nothing to interesting" I told her as a stowed the papers in my bag before She had a chance to see them. "What's for dinner?" I asked changing the subject. My mother sighed but allowed the subject to change. "Beef stew with toasted bread" My mother said as she sat the dish on the table.

I smiled as I moved to the table to help, it was my favorite meal. I helped her finish setting the table for the two of us we ate in silence.

After dinner I cleared away the table and washed the dishes setting them to dry. My mother was sitting in the living room knitting something I smiled and gave her a hug. "I love you mom I'm going to get some sleep now, don't stay up too late" I say with a light laugh. "I should be the on saying that to you, good night son!" she said with a laugh.

I smiled as I walked up to my room and laid on my bed that girl still on my mind. Her eyes held so much pain, yet they also held so much light, it intrigued me.

I pulled out the papers and read them for hours, my best friend Dave sacrificed so much to gather these. and before they took him away, he told me where his notes where hidden and begged me to continue what he started. Told me that the survival of our race and those on the other side depended on it.

I tried to ignore his words to stay far away but they kept haunting me until I eventually gave in. What I saw in his notes was horrifying and everything in me wished it was just some cruel joke, But the more I thought of it the more it seemed likely. Why else would they have taken him away? They wanted to silence him and keep what he found hidden. After a while I closed my eyes and allowed the darkness of rest to take me in its warm arms. Hopeing that for tonight my dreams would be peaceful and calm
