Chapter 2
At the office, it seemed nothing really changed. Though they tried to remain professional most of the time, there were times that Mikael would completely surprise her, much like he had the first day she had worked for him. What she did not know then even though it was an only a few weeks before she had been under investigation with the company. She had been named the best assistant many times over and that she had a way of doing things that was different.
It was the different comment that had really sparked an interest in her. The company could not risk a major security breach and she had had to be watched closely. They knew of a few of the executives that were questionable at best. If she was compromised, she could be at the risk they could not control.
Mikael never believed in love at first sight until he saw her. Looking at her was like looking at a dream goddess though she had no idea that he was there. She had become the focus of nearly everything for him. He needed to protect her at all costs. That was his only goal in everything as he handled the investigation.
He had easily cleared her of any wrongdoing, but then she had become an obsession. Even though he had other things to do, he would search her out and just watch from the sidelines. He knew what he had to do.
Behind the scenes, he was just seen as a good investigator for the company. He knew the only reason he had moved up so quickly was the support of his father. Though he had to start at the bottom and work his way up, he had found out all of his siblings had to do the same. He finally broke down and when to the older man and sat in front of him and requested to be moved as the head of the department he was in now. That meant he would move offices to the top floor and also, he would have need of an assistant.
This was a huge risk for him at the time. That meant he would be exposed to his half siblings who were sure not to like him. He had heard it all about them. He knew their secrets as well. It was his job, too. However, he also knew they could make his life hell if he rose too fast. They were the ones to inherit the company. He was just a by-product of an affair. Mikael had no idea about the truth then.
He had moved up and took his place in the company for only one reason. He wanted Petra near him. He took that much an interest in her. She was the feature of every daydream and every dream. So on the first day she was working for him and everything was going wrong for her he knew he added to it. He broke every rule the company had. He broke some laws as well. Though things had worked out for the pair, and it had grown into something he was sure was supposed to happen it still had been a wild first few days.
"You know you should have me fired." Mikael said as he sat down next to her on the private area, she had created in his office that was surrounded by trees and plants.
"Hmm? Why would I do that?" she asked as she looked at him. Petra was confused by the statement.
"If HR ever found out about the things, I did the first hour you worked for me. I would be toast." Mikael laughed. "I have never acted like that in my life. Though I will never say I regret it or anything that we did, I still can not believe that we got that lucky."
"It seemed that you wanted to be that lucky." She giggled.
"Only with you." He replied as he leaned over and kissed her.
"Mikael." She whispered softly.
"The door is locked." He chuckled. Her eyes went a little wide with surprise as he walked into the office an hour ago from a meeting with some of the other people on the floor about things that did not pertain to him. He had closed the door as he didn't want to be bothered and people did stay away from him when his door was shut. "No interruptions."
"Mikael, we can't." She said as she looked at him. And he was slightly confused. "People are starting to notice if I change or look different during the day. Maybe not the bosses, but the assistants do."
"I don't really care." He chuckled. "Sweetheart, as soon as my father announces my part in the company which is supposed to be at the end of this week. People will not mess with me. When we announce that we are getting married no one will mess with you either."
"No one said anything about getting married." She said as she looked at him.
"I figured you knew that was a goal to be worked towards. We are moving into a house together. We are together. Petra, did you really think that wasn't the goal?" Mikael asked as he cupped her face, "Sweetheart, I love you. I want you to be by my side in everything we do together. I just didn't want to rush things more than they already had been."
"That I understand." Petra said. She wasn't looking to make herself move up the ladder by a fling. She had avoided that with everyone else. There were so many things she had thought that were never going o happen to her that she didn't really want to believe that she was in a relationship with her boss. That the house they soon would share completely was hers. It was a dream. She was Cinderella. That was something she had never expected at all. Things like this happen in books and fairytales not to people like her.
