Snow settled softly on the icy glass windows of my office. Carols echo through the joy filled streets of Paris. Here, there is only the empty silence of grief filling the space, filling my head. Oh Emilie my beloved, how i miss you. Yet another Christmas without your beautiful smile to light up my world. Stuck in a loop, I am isolated from reality and I don't know how to get out. I turn around and close the curtains, covering the view. I cough, composing myself before leaving the room. My shoes clatter loudly on the cold stone floors of the Agreste mansion. I must go see Nathalie. "Father! Will you help me decorate the tree this year?" Before I can make my way to her room a small voice cries out behind me. It's my son, Adrien. Guilt pierces my heart and I look away, I have not yet told him about what I have been doing. I feel he may not understand.Better to keep him in the dark for now.
"I am very busy right now Adrien, later," I see that my words disappoint those longing green eyes of his. They are like his mothers. Pangs of sorrow lick my eyes as they start to water but I cannot show emotion, not now. I turn my back to my son and walk away.
As I open the door to Nathalie's room, she greets me. I look at her, in bed holding a mug of hot chocolate. She has been such a great help to me and I am closer to recovering Emilie than ever before. But what will happen if she does return to us, what will become of Nathalie. No. I must not think things like that. My goal is clear: use the miraculous to revive my wife. That is all. My gaze lifts to Nathalie's and I sit at the edge of her bed.
"I don't know what I would have done without you, Nathalie. Thank you for supporting me,''I smile.
