Chapter 10: Loving One Side

It had been about two months since Daniel was born and Oswald was feeling exhausted. So Oswald laid in bed in a somewhat deep still slightly conscious enough to hear if Daniel started crying. "Oh I forgot." Muttered Oswald as Edward grabbed his wrist. "No Daniel needs-"
"Oswald is he screaming?" Asked Edward not even wearing his glasses and only barely awake.
"Well no..." Muttered Oswald as he sat up in bed.
"Than it can wait Oswald." Muttered Edward as Oswald tugged against Edward's grip a little. "Oswald, 10 minutes all I ask. 10 minutes of not worrying about what Daniel needs and just think of what you need." Stated Edward as Oswald laid down next to him.
"Oh yeah and what do I need Ed?" Asked Oswald softly in a snarky yet tired tone.
"Sleep. None of us have slept in over 48 hours including Daniel now he's asleep let's not waste the opportunity." Begged Edward tiredly as he opened open eye seeing Oswald had fallen asleep already so did smiled and closed his eyes falling asleep.

Suddenly Ed awoke in a blurry room but that due to not wearing his glasses. He looked over feeling around finally touching his glasses. He slid them on and realized he was in slightly familiar room. "Oswald's bedroom?" Questioned Ed as he looked around then saw Oswald laying next to him. "Oh God! What did he do?!" Demanded Ed as he rushed out of bed and into the bathroom hoping to catch him in the mirror. "Come on you bastard where are you?! Growled Edward as he gripped the sink tightly. He looked down then looked back up at the mirror seeing himself but he looked at if he had visibly aged, he even noticed a silver hair or two in his hair but last he remembered he was only in his early 30's. Ed was freaking out as he lowered his head he heard an unfamiliar to e from a familiar voice.
"No! No! No! NO! THIS WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN!" Shouted the Riddler as he pounded on the glass.
"What's going on? Why does it look like I've aged a decade?!" Demanded Ed as he shook his head wanting this to just be a bad dream. "And why did I wake up next to Oswald!?" Demanded Ed as he looked up into his reflection and the Riddler just stared back at him with this hatred in his eyes.
"Figure it out for yourself Ed but try not to ruin my life or my marriage!" Barked Riddler as he faded into Ed's reflection.
"Marriage?" Asked Ed as left looked at his left hand seeing a gold wedding ring on his finger. "Oh dear." Muttered Ed as he left the bathroom and wandered back into the bedroom seeing Oswald laying in bed. Ed had sadistic thoughts running through his head as last thing remembered feeling was hatred for Oswald specifically. Ed looked around the room and noticed a small knife on a leg brace in the closet. He took the blade and grabbed Oswald lifting him from his spot on the bed and put the blade to his throat.
"Ed what are you doing?!" Asked Oswald as Ed sighed.
"I assume you mean him cause I'm Edward Nygma not him!" Barked Ed as he pressed the blade deeper into Oswald's throat.
"I can't believe I'm about to beg to you Ed but please you're making a mistake!" Pleaded Oswald.
"You have no idea how badly I want to slit your throat right now!" Growled Ed but he put he put down the nice and Oswald go. "But you're right, sadly I need you." Muttered Ed as he put the knife on the headboard. Oswald took a moment to process that he was no longer talking to the man that only 10 minutes ago begged him to drop his guard.
"I'm just glad this didn't happen three months ago." Muttered Oswald as he felt his neck seeing that Ed had cut him so he was bleeding a little but it hurt more that his husband just did this to him.
"What was going on three months ago?" Asked Ed as Oswald shook his head.
"It doesn't matter." Said Oswald as he  stood.
"Huh, at least I'm not the only one that's visibly aged." Teased Ed as Oswald rolled his eyes.
"So why am I so useful that you decided not to kill me exactly?" Asked Oswald as he stood.
"I need to know how long I was out and what happened over that time." Demanded Ed as Oswald sighed.
"So what's the last thing you remember?" Asked Oswald aggressively just wanting Ed to go away since he was being all paranoid and knife happy.
"I was in Arkham signing papers to get me admitted then you showed up and started talking about some letter you sent. It was secretly encoded for Riddler to read, then you said his name and everything is blank. The last thing I remember is wanting to kill you." Stated Ed as he glared at Oswald and Oswald sighed.
"Sorry to break it to you but that day was almost 15 years ago Ed." Stated Oswald as Ed took a deep breath.
"Alright I basically lied dormant for almost 15 years of my life so what happened over that time?" Asked Ed as Oswald sighed.
"Jim Gordon married Lee Tompkins while also having a daughter with Barbara Keene. Ed- Riddler confessed feelings to me and after a bit of drinking he and I started I guess I'll ever get to dating." Muttered Oswald just trying to rack off as much as he knew about everything that's happened over the time that Ed was gone.
"Tell me one thing are you and I?" Suggested Ed as he looked down at the ring on his finger. Oswald looked over at him seeing the ring then glanced down at his own.
"May be a horrifying thought to you but it was the happiest day of my life and I know he feels the same." Said Oswald as he held his hand remembering that day, knowing how nervous both of them were.
"Oh Oswald, I do." Muttered Riddler from inside Edward's head as he held his hand to his chest holding his ring standing in front of Oswald as a hallucination for Ed. Suddenly the house was filled with the sound of Daniel infant cries which alerted Ed.
"What is that?" Asked Ed as quickly stood.
"No, no, no!" Muttered Oswald as he stood. "He was asleep!" Exclaimed Oswald as he rushed across the room and the hallway into Daniel's bedroom. As Edward slowly walked over he realized why he and Oswald look exhausted.
"Who's baby is that?" Asked Ed as Oswald sighed holding the boy close.
"Ours." Stated Oswald as he held Daniel and rubbed his back. Oswald decided to sit down and hold Daniel while he explained to Ed what happened to conceive Daniel.
"So you and I have a had sex?!" Asked Ed as Oswald put his finger to his lips.
"I don't understand why that's the one detail you keep focusing on." Muttered Oswald as he fed the baby.
"Because I never thought of you in that way! At one point you were my best friend and nothing more." Said Edward as Oswald sighed. "Plus I had no idea you had such an attraction to me." Said Edward as Oswald smiled thinking of the first time he and Edward had sex.
"I mean I had no idea I felt that way until I felt mouth on my-" Oswald trailed off with grin across his face which caused Ed to be disgusted.
"But so thanks to Hugo Strange I got you pregnant and now we have a son." Muttered Edward as he was just thinking out loud. "You gave birth to him?" Asked Ed as Oswald sighed.
"Yes that's how it works Ed!" Said Oswald with a huff. "Trust me I never want to have to do that ever again." Stated Oswald as he looked at Daniel. "That doesn't mean I hate you, you just caused Daddy a lot of pain coming out of him." Cooed Oswald to Daniel as he was unsure if Daniel was able to understand him he wanted to be nice.
"You're very unsettling like this." Stated Edward as Oswald sighed rolling his eyes.
"You know I'm not quite enjoying you company either Ed!" Barked Oswald as he took the empty bottle from Daniel's mouth and put him over his shoulder rubbing his back. Suddenly Ed saw Riddler standing over by Oswald with this loving look in his eyes.
"It's dying to not be able to hold him." Begged Riddler as he went to hold the back of his son's head but then rushed over to Ed. "Why did you have to come out now?!" Shouted Riddler as he paced around the nursery. "They need me and you're useless to them!" Shouted Riddler as he stood back over by Oswald. "Oswald will find a way to free me. I know he will." Muttered Riddler as he tried to kiss the top of Oswald's forehead.
"You two were really in love weren't you?" Asked Ed as Oswald sighed.
"Yeah, unlike with you no matter what I did it never seemed to drive him away." Stated Oswald as he held their son close who was finally asleep. "He stayed with me through everything not because he felt he had to but because he wanted to." Said Oswald as rubbed Daniel's back.
"And he loved his son too?" Asked Ed as Oswald looked at him.
"Yes of course, what are you getting at?" Asked Oswald as Ed sighed.
"I can't believe I'm saying this but maybe revenge isn't what needs to happen right now." Muttered Ed as Oswald looked at him confused.
"What are you talking about?" Asked Oswald as he held Daniel a little tighter unsure of the actions that Ed was going to take.
"Ever since Riddler played a stupid game with Miss Kringle's dismembered body parts I have been looking forward to the day where I could sabotage his love life the way he did mine over and over but technically that boy is mine too and I don't think I could bring myself to hurt him, like my father hurt me." Stated Ed as he hung his head.
"Well you have no idea how relieved I am to hear you feel that way but there still leaves the matter of which one of you needs to be here." Stated Oswald as he held Daniel close.
"Yeah... This might be a stupid question seeing as what I did to you when I woke up but... Can I hold him? He's probably the only child I'll ever have." Muttered Ed as Oswald stood still holding Daniel.
"Fine just be careful, he was only born two months ago, he's still incredibly fragile." Said Oswald not really wanting to let Ed hold their infant son but knew that his statement was true. Daniel was the only child Edward Nygma will ever have and it wouldn't be right to keep him from him. Oswald carefully handed their boy to Ed having a hard time letting him go. Ed laid the boy against his chest feeling how warm he was. It was an intoxicating feeling, this fatherly love it filled him to the brim. Finally once a tear streaked down Ed's face, he was gone and Riddler has returned.
"I knew you'd figure out something Oswald." He mumbled as he kissed the top of his son's head.
"Riddler?" Asked Oswald as he walked over and kissed him softly.

The rest of that day Edward and Oswald laid in bed with Daniel just taking things easy. "I can't imagine what it was like being trapped inside your own head." Stated Oswald as he held Daniel in his lap.
"It's not that bad though we should keep an eye on Daniel." Stated Edward as Daniel smiled at him.
"For what exactly?" Asked Oswald as he pet Daniel's short black hair.
"Well I am a schizophrenic and that is genetic so just watch him for stuff that seems odd like reacting to thin air and things we can't see." Stated Edward as he handed Daniel a small toy which Daniel took and started to shake.
"Is that stuff you did?" Asked Oswald as he shifted the way Daniel was sitting on his lap.
"As a boy the only friend I had growing was a hallucination. I hallucinated him for over a year until I put together, to be far though I was in like 6 so I was still quite ignorant." Muttered Edward as Oswald sighed.
"That doesn't make it better Ed." Stated Oswald softly.
