When my father left I was four years old. My mother was devastated. A few days after he left she started drinking, and...hitting...
It hurt my heart that she was hurt, but that all changed when the beating became a regular thing.
One year later, when my mom took me to the park. Someone had walked up to mom. I couldn't see their face because they were to far away. But then they handed something to mom, it looked like money. They then walked toward me, I didn't know what to do so I just sat there waiting from them to come closer.
"Hey, your mom asked me to take you to go get ice scream. Wanna go?" the stranger asks.
"Yes!" I say as I smile up at them. I get up and walk next to them. We walked over to the ice scream stand, and ordered some ice cream. Then we took a short walk around the park, chit-chatting a bit.
They take a turn around a corner into an alley way, I followed them thinking they took a wrong turn or they're lost. But once I turned the corner something hit me in the back of the head and I blacked out. The last thing I remembered before blacking out from that was a pair of black boots and a cynical laughter of some sort...
When I woke up I had a blindfold on which was covering my eyes, and all I could think was, 'Mother? Did you sell me to that guy? What did I do wrong? Why did you do it? Did you hate me that much? Why Mother? Why... Mother?..'
