I walked into my mother's restaurant dazed and confused. My mother, being the doting woman she is, immediately noticed that all was not well.
"Cheong-san?" She looked at me from where she was busy getting ready to open by cleaning the counters. "What's the matter, sweetheart?" I opened my mouth and found that no words would come out.
"It's complicated..but someone is coming today and he's- well..you'll see when he gets here." I finally managed.
"Oh, dear. Don't worry! Our restaurant is as clean and ready as can be. No need to worry." She waves a hand at someone.
She finally steps back a few minutes later. "Alright! Lee-seo. Open the doors and flip around the closed sign so it says open! Cheong-san's chicken is open for business!"
I sighed. Here we go. I put on an apron and a name tag and went to go and serve people. Most people smiled and ordered, others blushed madly and stuttered. Mainly high school girls, but hey..some boys too.
"Hey, Cheong-san! Don't steal everyone's heart, huh?" Su-hyeok is here for his shift.
"I am not stealing anyone's heart." I replied, setting down a plate of chicken in front of a girl and flashing her a smile.
"Yeah right! You've been stealing hearts left and right! There won't be any girls left for me." Then he does an expression that looks rather silly on his face: pouting.
"Oh shut up." I rolled my eyes.
Another order was ready, this time for a table on the far corner. As I approached, my heart started racing. It's Gwi-nam. And he looks so good..his hair is nicely done, he's shaved, and most of all..his outfit screams daddy material.
"U-Um..order for table 7." I said, quieter than before.
"Mm, looks yummy, baby. And the chicken looks good too." He smirks up at me.
I can feel my ears getting red. "Don't say weird stuff like that!" I smack his shoulder.
"I can't help it, you look good in your apron. So, your mom named this place after you?" I hated everything about this conversation
"She- I told her not to, but- but she did, so-" He puts a finger to my lips.
"It's cute. I like it." He smiles that smile that I love so much.
"Well..I guess. My mom's calling out another order..so um. Bye, Gwi-nam." He takes my hand stops me from leaving.
"Ah-ah-ah. No first names, remember? If I can't call you by yours you can't call me by mine, love." He raises an eyebrow at me.
"Fine..I'll- I'll see you later," I whisper the last word "babe."
He lets me go and I don't look back.
"I see..so our sweet Cheong-san finally got a boyfriend?" Su-hyeok had heard everything from around the corner.
"Oh, piss off! I told you someone took me home didn't I? Would I get into some rando's car?" I huffed.
"So touchy." Su-hyeok pokes me in my side then runs off laughing as I swat at him.
My mother then taps me on the shoulder. I turned to look at her, then smiled. "Yes, mother?"
"It's table 7, isn't it? The young man in the leather jacket." I was caught off guard.
"What makes you think that?" I asked, nervously smiling.
"The way you acted around him. You finally managed to snag a handsome one, I see~" She smiles at me in a proud way. "I'm so proud of you, my Cheong-san. After the lunch rush and we close, I want to get to know him. Please go right now and tell him to stay. I am excited to meet him."
"Uh..sure, mother." I started off towards his table. He looks up when he hears me coming.
"What's up, love?" He asked. "Here to ask me to leave?"
"Actually..I'm sorry. My mother- she wants.." I lower my eyes to the table. "She wants to meet you. So I came to ask you to stick around until we close."
He tilts my chin back up. "I'll be here. Kiss?" He abruptly asks. I stare at him for a minute, then my eyes drifted to his lips. Hesitating. But then, I finally get some courage. I lean in and let him kiss me quickly before walking away with my face on fire.
Su-hyeok gives me a thumbs up over some teenage boy's head.
I managed to pretend like my boyfriend wasn't across the room and get back into my easy rhythm. "There's your chicken, ma'am. You look very pretty today." I said to a girl around my age.
"Thank you! You look very handsome as well. I will tip well." She smiles at me, to which I return it.
I wiped my forehead as the last customer left and I flipped the open sign closed. I was distracted by arms wrapping around me from behind, a chin resting on my shoulder.
"All done?" He asks. My hands come up to cover his.
"Mm. Today was extra busy, so..I'm sorry you had to wait long for the last person to leave." I turned my head and kissed his cheek. "C'mon. Let's go meet my mother."
I lead him into the back, and shut the door before Su-hyeok could weasel his way into the room. My mother is waiting.
"Oh goodness! You are so tall! And handsome. I'm Cheong-san's mother..you can call me Mom, hm?" Gwi-nam smiles and bows his head.
"I am Yoon Gwi-nam. I can see where Cheong-san gets his good looks from. It's lovely to meet you, Mom." Gwi-nam has a charming look about him. My mother is head over heels.
"So polite! You picked a good one, son. You can stop by any time!" She takes his hands. He nods to her.
"So, I hate to ask a favor..but could I perhaps steal your son for a bit?" I instantly protested.
"But- the lunch rush.." She waves me off.
"We can go without you for a few hours. Go on." I pouted. She was so eager to get rid of me, it seems.
"C'mon, baby." He takes my hand and leads me out. He opens the door for me to get into his car, pretending to be a gentleman.
Nonetheless, it was cute.
"So? What do you think of my mother?" I asked, sitting back as he began to drive.
"I like her already. Seems like a kind woman." He sits his hand on my thigh as he turns onto a street.
I rolled my eyes but let it stay there..Somewhere deep inside of me I liked it. Once he's satisfied that I'm comfortable, he smiles a bit.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"My secret place. Don't worry, I'm not going to kill you or anything." I playfully hit his arm as he said that.
"I didn't think you were but now I do!"
He started to laugh and before long, I joined in.
I think I made a good choice by letting him sweep me off my feet and into a relationship with someone I met at a party.
