A/N: I originally posted this on Ao3 but uh I decided to bring it to my old wattpad account. Sorry for the lack of a proper cover. I forgot I needed to make one lol.
-----One may think that Mondstadt's weather was always bright and sunny, filled with the sounds of chirping birds and rustling of leaves in the wind. The free city was often portrayed as such-- a land where the sun shone down kindly upon its citizens and warmed their faces in a way that was welcome and not stifling. For the most part, that was true; apart from the constant breeze, the land north of stone gate was calm and welcoming, only occasional clouds dotting the sky.
This was not always the case, however. While the storm god Decarabian had long since been vanquished, bad weather still occurred in Mondstadt as it did anywhere else. Heavy rains and strong winds whipped through the pines of Wolvendom and the Windwheel Asters of Windrise alike. They rustled through the trees of the Whispering Woods and howled through the ruins of Stormterror's Lair. Yes, while the city itself did not often deal with rain like this, the surrounding regions were not so fortunate.
Of course, Razor was quite familiar with the infrequent but heavy storms of Mondstadt's outskirts. He had long since grown used to them, having dealt with them often as a pup. Back then, he was small enough to easily fit under the belly of his wolf friends, and they would stand and keep him dry while relying on their thick fur to keep them warm. It was a fond memory of his.
These days, however, Razor had to rely on his own abilities to keep himself safe from storms. Lighting, of course, did not scare him, but the rain would chill his bones and soak his long hair if he was not careful. Typically, he was able to know when a storm was on its way. The air would grow thick and heavy and the aftermath of his vision use would leave it tingly and thrumming with energy in a way that would not happen on clear days. However, on this particular occasion, due to the nature of such fast-moving summer storms, Razor had not taken notice until it was too late.
He had been out hunting boar all day, and it was around 6:00 pm. He had only just begun to see the sun descend towards the horizon when he felt the first drop of rainfall land on his face. He had assumed it was sweat at first since he had been running, but feeling more begin to fall, he took notice of the sharp, earthy-metal scent of the petrichor. Knowing what would follow, he put up his hood. He let his greatsword dissipate and return to where it was stored within his vision, gathering the last of the meat and then setting off back towards the city.
Razor had been spending more time there as of late. After the Stomterror incident, he had been offered board both by the adventurers guild and the Knights of Favonius, choosing the former for his home away from home, as he knew more people there and was often encouraged to embrace his more human side by his friends. He had planned to go back to Wolvendom for the night, but noticing the rain, he figured the city was the better option to avoid the cold.
Initially, Razor had been traveling at a brisk walk, not minding the cool rain after running around in the summer heat. However, after a while of walking, he felt the chill begin to nip at his skin and his fingers and toes felt cold and damp. He picked up the pace, speeding up to a jog and then a run as the rain began to pour harder and harder. It was partially for warmth, as exercise helped keep his blood pumping, but also because he knew his friends would worry about him.
Razor had just about passed Springvale as the lighting began to strike. Not scary for him, but certainly enough to give him a warning. He rounded the corner of the road, knowing the gates to the city proper were only just up ahead. If he sped up further, he may be able to make it before he got too--
