I don't own the Hunger Games, or her characters, Aven and Ava are mine, though, so is the plot. Same as every Fanfiction that you've probably read.

Oh, and also, I'm going through my 'stats'.

THANK YOU FOR READERS IN Canada, United States, Argentina, United Kingdom, Sweden, Russia, Czech Republic, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and Australia!

Also I'm editing as heck rn, trying to get at least 500 words per chapter. Currently at Chapter 25 as of July 2nd, 2022.

Oh yeah and vote, it does nothing to you. But it gives me a smile, and I'm at like 60 smiles!

And please comment, I don't care if its hate, I only have seven of my comments on here.

Oh well. Thanks for being here.

Enjoy!

I woke up with sweat on my forehead, hyperventilating. I quickly calmed my breathing and wiped my forehead.

It was reaping day. The day I had been dreading for weeks, for two reasons:

1. It was a chance to get killed.

2. Ava

"Lady's First!"

Effie Trinket dug around the bowl of dreaded names.

Please don't be me, please don't be me--

"Ava River!"

It's not me! But, its Ava.

"AVA!!" I screamed, tears beginning to stream down my face.

My sister. My best friend. My reason.

She turns around, but is forced by Peacekeepers up to the stage. She is held there. She is screaming, trying to run. The male tributes name is barely heard. She is crying.

When I was allowed to see her, I was wearing my precious green dress. She gave me her headband.

"Keep it, to remember me, Aven, I love you."

I hugged her for the entire two minutes. We were both crying. She was the closest thing to a best friend I ever had. And she was leaving. Leaving me.

We heard nothing until the opening ceremony. She was wearing coal dust. Nothing more. She was being publicly humiliated. She was ducking down, trying to hide in the cart.

Next, we saw her at the interviews, second last.

She stumbled over her words and talked about us.

"Well, um, my sister and Mom are at home. They are cheering me on!" She tried to smile. It wasn't even close to realistic. Her chin was quivering, and tears were filling to the brim.

Ceaser tried to make her feel better, like he always did, but she ran off the stage before the buzzer.

She was the laughing stock of the entire world. They were still laughing when the boy from District 12 came out.

Next, she was on the TV, in the Games, in the flaming desert. We live in the cold winter, not desert. The hottest weather we go was no where near to the desert. When the bell rang, she ran to the Cornucopia, but was overtaken and killed by the District 1 girl.

She was dead. Half a second. She was dead. Her life flashed before my eyes. When we ran around together all those sunny days in the field, watching the stars at night, her and my first days at school, teasing each other, comforting each other at our father's death, through mom's depression, sharing secrets, all gone. I stared at the screen, numb. The camera turned to more killings, her body moved before my mind.

I couldn't take it. I ran outside and hid in the dead quiet Hob and cried my eyes out. Every time I stopped, I saw her headband and the tears came back.

Ava was dead.

*** Flashback over ***

I got back under the covers and hid from the day of horrors.
