I look around as I walk out of my last class of the day. "Hey Sammy." I turned around to see my friend Jeremy. Jeremy was taller than me he was like 6'2 and he was a football player hints at the muscular build. "You know how you've been looking for a job. well I heard that there is one open on campus," he says. "Ok, what is it?" I ask. "I heard that they're looking for a team manager. And it's on campus so you won't have to drive." That actually sounded pretty good, because most places around here wouldn't hire me because of my lack of time and education. "Okay I'll go talk to the coach here after a while."

I went back to my dorm and got changed into a pair of black leggings and a long sleeved shirt that said Colorado on it. I put my hair in a ponytail and grabbed a Nike backpack that had all of my books and my MacBook in it. I started to walk towards campus with my AirPods blaring Mockingbird by Eminem. Once I reached the center of campus I went towards the sports and training center. I had been here a lot, considering I wanted a career sports medicine. I walked to the main building where all of the coaches offices were. I went to the football coaches office. Once I reached the door I knocked on it. "Come in," I heard from the inside. I opened the door and there at the large desk sat the coach. He was in his mid 20's and he was new here. He just showed up after our head coach retired. And Jeremy said that he only played a few years in the NFL before he got injured. From what I've heard he was a top draft pick. But something wasn't right I know this man. I've met him before. Wait I know where I met him. He went to the same school as me. He played for my dad. He was his star quarterback. "Sit down," he said as he nodded to the chair across him. "Samantha Black." I shook his hand. "What brings you here Samantha?" "I heard that there was a position for a team manager. And I came to ask if it was still open." He looked at me. "Yes the position is still open. But why do you think you are the right person for the job? Especially as a woman." He asks. "Sir, I think I'm the right person because I can catch on quickly. And I don't think that me being a girl will change much I used to manage the football team for my dad back home but you already knew that."

He seemed to be in thought. "When can you start?" He asked. "I can start whenever you need me." He nodded. "We have practice at 7 after practice we can talk about pay. But be here at 6:30 tonight." Thank goodness. "Thank you I will be here." I stood up and shook his hand again before I walked to the door. "And Sam." I turned around. "Tell your father I said hi." I nodded and walked out the door.

Once I got to the nearest Starbucks I called my dad.

"Hey Sam. How are you?"

"I'm good dad. How about you?"

"I am doing just fine. Now, what did you need?"

"You'll never guess who I just saw."

"Who?"

"I saw Cameron Lane."

"Really. I haven't seen him since he left for college but I did hear that he was in that area coaching."

"Yeah he said hi and I also got a job."

"We'll I guess today was good, what kinda job?"

"A job to be a team manager."

"Oh good job, hopefully you have fun."

"Yeah, I have to go but I just wanted to talk to you real quick."

"Okay talk to you later bye." "Bye"

I hung up.

I went to the counter and ordered a venti strawberry açaí refresher with 1 scoop strawberry inclusion and light peach juice blend. And went and sat down. I got my MacBook out and started working on my notes for the last lesson in my pharmacology class. "Samantha" I heard the person at the counter yell. I walked up and grabbed my drink. As I sat back down my phone buzzed. It was my alarm to go to practice. I put my computer back in my bag and grabbed it as I walked out the door. I started to make my long walk back to the sports complex. As I was walking I put my playlist on shuffle. When I reached the building I walked inside and straight to Lanes office. I knocked on the door just before it opened. Cameron looked at his watch. "You're 15 minutes early." I nodded and he walked past me while saying, "follow me." I followed him towards one of the doors that said trainer. He unlocked the door and walked in. "This is where we keep the water bottles, towels, and where we wash the jerseys. First thing you will do before every practice is fill up water bottles and you will grab towels." I nodded as he grabbed three holders of Nike water bottles. He handed them to me and I went to the faucet and filled them with cold water. "And just a warning some of the guys can be assholes but just ignore them. And if they give you too much trouble tell me." He finished talking and then helped me fill up the bottles. We walked out to the field and I sat all the stuff down. "The footballs are in there," he said as he pointed at a door. I went and opened the door inside was a lot of equipment and I looked around and saw a bag of footballs. I grabbed the bag and sat them down outside. "Let's see if you can still throw a football." I said to Cameron. He laughed and put a grin on his face. "I don't know if you're good enough to catch a ball that I throw." He says as I grab a football. I throw a perfect spiral straight to him from about 20 yards away. "Am I good enough?" I ask. "I don't know I may have to think about it for a while." He says back. He throws the football to me and I throw it back. We do this for a while until some of the players start to make there way onto the field. Cameron walks over to me. "You can just work on any work you have during practice. I'll tell you if we need any help." I nod and walk over to the sideline and sit down by the fence. I grab my laptop and sign in. I started working on my notes again.

"Sam can you come over here and time them?" Coach asks. I get up and grab the stopwatch from his hands. The guys started and as the finished I wrote down there times. After the last one finished I took the sheet to Cameron. When I reached him he turned to me. "Thanks, your good to get back to what you were doing." I nod then go sit down again.

Once I finished with my notes I put up my laptop and stood up. I walked over to where Cameron was standing. "Sam, what do think of the defense?" He asked. I took a look at the defense. They were having trouble catching up to the offense and they were out of position. "Theyre slow, and that number twenty and number fifty should switch spots. Put the faster one further out." He looked at me amazed. "What? My father taught you almost everything you know about football." He smiled and looked back to the team. He blew his whistle and they stop moving. Conner and Marshal switch spots and run the same defense again." They moved positions and ran the play again. This time the running back didn't make it past the defense, so he wasn't open. "Good job, maybe I should listen to you more often." I smiled.

He blew his whistle and the team huddled around him. He said a few things they needed to work on then everyone left. I started to pick up all of the water bottles and the footballs. Cameron started to help me pick it up. I put the ball bag in the equipment room. I picked up my bag and started to walk towards the building. Soon I heard footsteps behind me I saw the shadow. It was Cameron. "The job doesn't really pay much but it's enough for a college student to get by. And pay day is every other Friday." He said. "Thats fine thank you."

I walked to the locker room and waited outside for Jeremy to get out. When the door opened Colton Smith a wide receiver walked out. He looked towards me and smirked. "Hey sweet cheeks, wanna take this back to my place, it will be fun?" He said as he smiled at me. "No, not really the reviews around campus aren't that good, and is it really as small as they say?" I ask and his jaw clenched. I heard a low chuckle behind me and I turn around to see Cameron. "I guess you don't really need my help, it seems you can handle them on your own." He says as he smiles at me. "Yeah I guess so, but thank you anyways."

I knocked on the door to Jeremy and the other Senior football players house that they had just outside of campus. And Harden Protts the quarterback opened the door. "Hey Black, Jeremy's in the living room." I nod and walk to the living room. Jeremy has been my best friend for years so I come around often and all of the other guys are pretty used to me by now. When I reach the living room I see Jeremy sitting on the couch watching a movie.
