Misty smoke surrounded all around me. The air so crisp and cold that with every step, I could see my breath. My lungs working overtime so much that it hurt to breath. Feeling a fire deep within. Hiding behind a tree, I was finally able to breath right. And take a deserved break. Inhaling deeply and exhaling just as much. A twig snapped off in the distance with my head twirling to the sound. My mind racing with so many thoughts. But I knew deep inside I had to keep moving.
Covering my mouth quickly i let out a cry of pain, which still managed to to get caught in my throat. Looking down slowly I saw why. My legs were not only like jelly, but a huge gash was on my leg. Blood was everywhere! With the adrienale rush I guess I was not paying attention. Out of instinct, I grabbed my shirt tearing it with my teeth and wrapping it around the wound firmly tighting it in place.
The pain in my head to much to bare. My sight was dimming. Holding onto my head, the whole place was spinning and i was so dizzy. I needed to move but every muscle in my body would not. One final look and I took off again, feeling in my legs coming back once more. That flight or fight responce returning to me. A sigh of relief escaping my chapped lips, as I continued to run.
No sound could be heard as I passed by some trees. By this time now i could not just hear my footsteps I could hear someone else's. My heart racing in my chest, I was scared. Not knowing if i was going to live or die was truly nerve wracking enough. But if I did not keep moving I knew deep down that i to would not have very long to live. Knowing that sent shivers down my very spine.
Everything around me went black and i knew this was the end. With my body in cold sweats I managed to wake myself up. Looking around in a blur, it had become so so clear what happend was not real at all it was a dream. A horrible and terrible, but so lifelike dream. It scared me to my core and deep down it was far from being over.
Turning to the alarm clock it read 4.am. I knew it was not a fluke, that dream was real. If dreams were real this would be one of them. But the question on my mind was when was this going to take place? Honestly, it scared me to my Witt s end. Or even think about it alot. So instead, I tried to call my breathing down slowly.
IT worked for alittle while, not much. Closing my eyes I was able to count to ten. And it worked out far more better for me. Letting out a small sigh of relief , i managed to fall asleep until later on in the day. My covers wrapping me up in a cozy warm embrace. This however I loved alot. A smile resting on my wonderful peaceful face.
" Beth wake up!" It sounded like that voice was millions of miles away. Next thing I know I was shaken awake wildly. This time a face came into view. The look of surprise on my face, made my sister smile. " Carrie what's wrong with you? Cant you see i was asleep?"
Carries face becoming a snarl after my responce. Folding her arms in front of her, as her mouth opened to reply to me once again. " you need to get up. You can not sleep like this too 4 pm all the time. Mom needs u awake so-." With a simple eye roll I responded quickly and snapping so fast.
" Yes mom, wait I had no idea mom was such an asshole. " sacrastically, speaking. I stopped talking. With that she was gone and I was again left alone. An aroma filling the air up to my nose, with my mouth watering slightly. My stomach growling so hard it hurt. I grabbed it quickly. Debating on if I should go downstairs now or not. Now that I was fully awake. I was just glad I was able to get some sleep for a few hours before carrie came bursting into my room.
My mind was made up I headed downstairs. " Finally someone rises from the dead." Mom laughed out loud handing a steaming pile of pancakes in front of me. It looked so heavenly just sitting there in front of me. Picking up my fork with a clank sound I put it in my food and put it to lips, a smile on my face. " Well-" carrie responded with a sly smile on her chubby face. That made me stop in mid bite as I chewed I got nervous. Something did not seem right. My sister and that smile got me thinking did she do something with my food? " What did you do you little witch!"
I snapped fast at her. The smile on her face growing bigger and bigger. Thats when I felt it on my tongue. A huge strand of human hair. Pulling it out in disgust, I threw it at her and got up fast. " This is nasty! You are so immature. You need to grow up carrie!" But she did was roll her eyes as she then went right back to her cell phone. I felt a slight hand on my shoulder I knew it was mom. Taking on a huge sigh, i knew she was right not to get angry with her. I needed to calm down she was right.
Getting upset over a small harmless prank was not the answer at all. Deep down i knew that as well to. That dream went back into my mind once again. It felt so real that it sent shivers down my spine super fast. But why? What did this dream mean? Was I suppose to know it all? Was I in danger? Was my family? Shaking my head back to the present, I then made my way outside to continue to get some much needed fresh air.
The trees blowing softly in sync with the wind. The birds chirping as if a song was being sung. My heart was so peaceful that i felt so much joy the fear from twenty minutes ago vanished and i could finally breath better. Closing my eyes I just knew everything was going to be fine. Everything was going to be okay, and deep down I knew this. A long time ago I came across a certain power that I inherited that made it easier for me, to speak to the dead as well as see them. As a kid my mom always worried about this with me.
But I knew it was a part of me and that was not about to change. After about the time I graduated high school and lived on my own was she finally able to accept me for who I was.
" Hey stranger! Still remember me?" Looking up at him i smiled. This was Alex. My best friend who has always been supportive especially with my gifts. If I ever needed to vent or rid of evil spirits he is there. He as always been my rock. And i truly lucky he is in my life still to this day.
" Nothing much, enjoying some fresh air. What about you? What brings you around here alex?" My mind curious and racing once again. Alex smiled, his eyes sparking at the question. Folding his arms across his chest. " Honestly out for a walk. Then saw a familiar face so stopped to say hello. Why do you ask?" Smirking I let out a laugh, sarcastically saying to him without notice.
" Please Alex you did not come this way to see me. We all know this. What's really going on?" Looking at him he seemed so deep in thought like what i said was not registering in his brian. It seemed like minutes had gone by and nothing was happening. " alex? Hello...alex!" Snapping at him in front of his face, his face. His lips parted some and a sigh escaped. His eyes widened as he proceeded to answer me. " whoa! Calm down I am fine. I forgot the question tho. " of course he did.
Should have known this was going to happen. But hey it was alex and he always was alittle odd. But he was my best friend. And with me living in the city, its hard to come home. So i only arrive home once every couple months or three times a year.
" When do you go back to the big city?" Alex smiled with a smirk on his face. My whole body went numb, I hated how he asked that question. Taking a deep breath in and out slowly answered his question, leaning on my moms car. " Friday I am heading back. Why do you ask?"
His whole face lit up like a jack-O Lantern. With one sentence that sent shivers down my spine up and down. My palms sweating.
" I know a haunted place we can go check out, this place was made to be explored!"
