Darwin got home shortly after that and found gumball sleeping on his bed when he entered his room. It was only 7:30 or so, so this was surprising to see. Dinner haven't even been served yet.

He went to sleep that night racking his brain for a plan to get the 'date' to work, only to doze off soon after. The phone alarm rang starting the day, Darwin opened his eyes and poked his head out of his fishbowl to wake up Gumball to realize he had already been down at breakfast. As strange is that behavior was, it meant Darwin wouldn't have to nag Gumball to get out of bed. So he was somewhat joyful

He slipped his shoes on and jumped down the steps. He quickly ate breakfast then both Gumball and Darwin made their way to the bus.

Gumball sat in his usual spot, well Darwin had went to go sit by Sarah to try to discuss the details of the plan. When the bus stopped everybody loaded off as Darwin waited for Gumball who was nowhere to be seen. This doesn't happen too often but Gumball does skip school every now and then, usually he tells Darwin, but this time he didn't.

Darwin obviously covered for him, he waited until lunch to go look around the school and see if he was still in it to no avail.

Gumball was hiding in the janitor closet on the second floor behind the mops, that's when he heard someone oped the door and shut it in a panicked state.
'gah! Oh geez did I get caught!?'
Gumball try to shuffle a little to see from behind the mops who it was quietly. To his shock it was Hot Dog Guy.

It was strange to see him as often as he did this week, conveniently after he broke up with Penny. It's almost like they're in a really bad Wattpad fanfiction.

He didn't know what to think of HDG's surprise appearance. For somE stRange reAsoN he felt almost more calm, relieved even. As Gumball was scooting over to see him better his knee hit a mop causing it to fall. As soon as it hit the ground directly by HDG the jumped in surprise, still pumped of adrenaline.

He snapped his head back to see only a small, sad cat in the corner.

"Oh, it's you..." HDG started. I quickly recalled something. "Orange fish said you weren't here today"

"Um- about that. I was just skipping! That's all..." Gumball quickly excused in a cheeky voice. To change the subject he quickly asked what HDG I was doing there too.

"Julius bomb head and his gang was trying to catch me again. Something about being a 'wHitty sMarRtasS' or some bull like that. Chased me for a bit and hid from them here" he said calmly, but still winded from running.

"Oh that must suck." GB replied. "Yeah, but you get used to it" he let out with a charming chuckle, lowering himself down to gumball's level.

It was almost like a switch was clicked instantly. Gumball heart started pounding in his stomach felt like it was going to flow out of him. His senses were more heightened as HDG came closer. He could only help but to zone out for a second.

He was quickly shot back to reality when hot dog guy snapped his fingers about an inch away from his face to get his attention. "Hey! Dude wth?"

"Oh yeah sorry man did you say something?" Gumball quickly said, still with a shaky voice.

"Well I was about to. Why are you skipping? It's the end of the year. We need are grades up and no offense, but you don't seam academically well." He said in a welcoming voice.

"HA! Dude, I'm not gonna pass now no matter how much I'm in class, I have all Fs, like- 100 missing assignment plus Ms. Kinion hates my guts." Gumball said.

"Oh wow..." HDG said baffled. "I mean... There is still a month of school left. If you want I could help you...?"

"What!? Why would you want to help me? I mean I know you're good at school but I'm definitely a lost cause." GB said joking, but still a clear tone of defeat in his voice.

HDG looked at him concerned, "ok, there's no such thing as a lost cause... It's fine, I'll even tutor you!" He happily huffed out without thinking much.

"Well that's nice of you and everything but... Why? We hardly know each other." Gumball questioned him.

HDG lifted his eye brows and turned a brighter shade of red. His mouth grew into an awkward smile. "It's just what friends do, OH! Unless you don't want to be friends. That's cool too! I just thought-" 

Gumball regretting his question blurted out "NO TUTOR ME" cutting the other off. HDG looked shocked at his demand. "I- I mean- you know, you can tutor me! And I'd like to be friends! Totally."

HDG's face relax turning back to its normal state. "Damn man you scared me for a sec there. I guess is there a day or time you want to do it?" He said in his calm state again.

"Uh- sure." He reached over to his backpack and scribble down something on a blank piece of notebook paper. Folding the page he gave it to HDG and said. "here is my number. We can arrange it after school. Do you take the bus?"

"Yeah."  HDG said well grabbing the paper. "Um thanks... But you never answered my question."

"What?"

"Why are you skipping?"

GB was still really emotional from being in aw buy HDG. All his emotions couldn't help but flare up again and his eyes brimmed with tears as a result. "Um... When I-" he was cut off.

"Omg sorry I didn't mean to make you upset!" He exclaimed and panic as he scooted over to Gumball.

"Oh I'm sorry! it's fine... Penny.. I just-"

"No." HDG cut him off again."Don't be sorry for showing emotion. It wasn't my business anyway."

"Oh.... thanks. I guess you're right."

"Yeah, I know I am." He said with confidence.

Gumball couldn't help but giggle before saying, "and also, sorry this whole thing was so awkward. It's almost like some sort of jinx."

"No prob. Honestly I don't think it could get worse then it did a few weeks ago. It was so bad I thought you hated me." HDG stuttered out fastly.

Just then the lunch bell rang signaling it was time for class to begin. "Oh dang, I got to go to class. Um... Bye." He said while awkwardly smiling once again.

"Yeah bye. Um meet me at the bus doors?"

"Sounds good!" HDG quickly said before running off to his class.
