Chapter Seven

As we walked back to Manhattan David was walking ahead of me and Jack
"What is it with Brooklyn and flirting with you?" Jack said frustrated
"Oh come on Jack I'm sure they were just being friendly!" I replied nudging him playfully
"Gonna have ta scare em all away!" Jack said playfully nudging me back
I rolled my eyes at him
"Davey slow down!" I shouted
"We need to hurry I have to get home to Les!" David said worried
"Alright we'll hurry up but I'm sure the others will take care of him!" I said patting David's back
"Yeah well I can't take any chances!" David said in his serious tone
"Come on he's playing with the little kids!" Jack said
We could tell David wasn't in the mood for our arguments so we kept waking until we finally reached Manhattan. We went to the statue outside of the circulation building where all the newsies were already
"Heya fellas!" I said as I saw my friends all betting for each other's money
"Heya Ava!" They replied
I went and joined beside them Mush put his arm around me and patted me on the back
"You took long enough!" He jokingly said
Racetrack suddenly stood up to and rested his arm on my shoulder "so how was Brooklyn en?" Racetrack asked me
"I'm sure Jack would be glad to tell ya!" I replied
"Heya Ava!" Les said giving me a hugged with Skittery right behind him
"So where's Spot?" Skittery asked
"He was concerned about us being serious, can you imagine that?" I shouted into the crowd
"Yeha well maybe we ought to ease of a little, you know!" Racetrack argued
"Yeah without Spot and the others there's not enough of us, Guys!" Blink agreed
"Maybe we're moving too soon!" Mush said
"Maybe we ain't ready!"
"Think so?" Jack asked
"I definitely think we should forget about it for a little while" Skittery stated
"Oh do ya?" Me and Jack asked annoyed and defensive
"Yeah. I mean, we're not Brooklyn" Racetrack stated
"Hey, who we kidding here?" I shouted at them all
"Spot was right. Is it just a game to you guys?" I yelled
"It's not a game!" Some of them said
"It's just that-" others shouted
"Heya Crutchie!" Jack said whilst looking into the distance in a daze. I walked around the statue building through groups of newsies I saw Les playing swords with another little kid
"Heya Ava!" He said smiling
"Heya Les!" I replied
"Tell me what Brooklyn was like!" He begged
"Alright, alright!" I agreed
We both sat down on the ground leaning against the statue, the others on the other side
"It wasn't that different from here, but there was more lakes and it reminded me of sailors and pirates!" I said excitedly
"Wow!" Les mumbled with a big grin
"I wish I coulda seen it!" He said
"Was there any pirates!" He asked thrilled
"Yeah I bet Spot and the others had seen loads before!" I said
I knew pirates weren't real but I couldn't ruin Les's imagination
"Guys come on! Now is the time to seize the day!" We heard David shout
We quickly got up and ran to the other side of the statue to find everyone crowded round Jack and David,
"Ava come on in here! Your one of the leaders!" Jack shouted
I walked into the middles of the crowd
"Wrongs will be righted if we're united!" David yelled into the crowds
"We'll slay the giant!" Me, David and Jack all shouted
The little kids we're all standing on top of the statue to stay out of the way and so they were able to see us better
"Fellas! nothing can break us!" I shouted
"No one can makes us! Give our rights away!" Jack shouted
The circulation bell starting ringing
"Anybody hear that?" I shouted to the crowd of newsies
"No!" They all replied
"So what we gonna do about it!" Jack shouted
"Soak em!" They all replied
We all bolted into the circulation building to show the scabbers what will happen if they broke our strike. We ran into the building and waited at the bottom of the stairs. A boy came walking down but he stopped as soo as he saw us
"Drop the papes!" Newsies yelled from in the crowd
The boy looked back at other behind him before throwing down the papes, we patted his back and grinned. All the rest of them dropped their papes expect for one, he was tall and bigger than the rest of us
"What have we got here?" Newsies asked from in the crowd
"We got a big one fellas!" Others said
"Is he a newsie or what?" Racetrack yelled
He tried to get through our crowd but everyone pushed him back
"No!" Blink said pushing him back
"Blink!" David shouted
He came closer to me and Jack
"Now guys don't-"
David said but before he could finish Jack slapped the papers out of his hand. The guy quickly got them and tried to get up again but suddenly pushed the crowd unexpectedly, we all ran after him screaming and shouting and that then led to all the newsies ripping up papers, throwing rotten tomatoes at the office and destroying the place. We all cheered as me and Jack both made faces through the window at Weasel whilst laughing amongst each other, we got down and ran through the main area, newsies shouting and cheering running around with each other kicking and ripping things I even saw Kid Blink making stupid noises such as hitting his mouth repeatedly while shouting, me and Jack laughing at him everyone was whooping and cheering I ran past Racetrack as we did a quick high five cheering. Me Jack and David all hugged and cheered together until suddenly we heard horses
"CHEESE IT, ITS THE BULLS!" I screamed
Every newsies started to run but I waited for Racetrack to get out before I ran, I couldn't leave anyone of my friends behind, me and Racetracj were running out when we remembered that we hadn't seen Crutchie leave yet, we looked back to see Crutchie still cheering and ripping papes.
