The sun was setting as I stared and watched from the balcony. It was what I normally did in the late afternoon. With the cars wizzing along the road trying to get home from a long day at work, as small as ants from where I stood, the scene helps clear my head. The golden shine of the sun burned into my eyes as I turned, leaving spots in my vision. I needed to get ready for work, anyhow, so I walked inside to get ready.
I took a long look around my apartment. A simple design, the small kitchen blending into the "living room," which was barely big enough for a 2-seated couch and a TV mounted into the wall. I made my way past the couch, and into the small hallway that split into two directions; one to my bedroom and the other to the bathroom. I enter my bedroom and open the plastic bag containing my uniform on my bed.
I sigh to myself, taking a look at the purple shirt before putting it on. It had a small Freddy's logo on the front, and an extremely detailed large one on the back. It was more than enough reason to justify me putting on a zip-up hoodie over it. Making my way out the door, I decided that I was left alone with my thoughts for too long, and put my headphones on to listen to music.
After a short trek out of the complex and a bike ride, I come face to face with Freddy's. If the building didn't stick out during the day, it definitely did now. The nearby streetlight didn't do much to help thanks to the neon glow coming from the neon signs. I locked my bike to the rack, and made my way to the door.
It was mostly empty, with a few customers finishing up their meals, and the stage that was once crowded with people felt strangely empty, especially with the curtains closed. I audibly sigh. I may have made a huge mistake, I thought to myself, glancing elsewhere.
A man behind the service counter that looked in his late 50s caught my attention with his piercing blue eyes. "Hey kid," he said in his gruff voice. "You the one hired for the night watchman job?"
"I- uh, yes sir. I am." The man just sighed and looked at me as if he was attending my funeral. It was almost scary to see. Yeah, I definitely made a mistake.
"Come on kid, it's time for the obligatory tour around the place," He said, walking out from behind the counter and motioning me to follow him, to which I immediately followed. He showed me around, giving brief explanations on each room. A pirates cove, kids corner, even a full on arcade! We eventually made it back to the main stage. It was completely empty this time, the last of the other employees waving bye on her way out. It must have struck 10 during the tour.
"And here we are, back in the main room." He turned back to me, that same look from earlier still in his eyes. "Hey, kid." He said, pausing. "It's not too late to reconsider."
"Reconsider? I need this job, sir." Even as I said it, I knew there were other options.
He just sighed, it was clear he had the same conversation before. "If that's truly the case, then by all means, stay. But, kid," The look in his eyes changed from sadness to almost a hatred, "You should know that this job has lead to the disappearance of many men." I stared at him, I wasn't sure if I wanted my suspicions to be correct. It was in this moment I read the name on his nametag. His name was Mike. Mike glanced at the time on his watch, and waved goodbye. I looked back around after he left, and feeling uncomfortable, I decide to make my way to the security office.
Three monitors, two doors, one hundred percent battery, I thought to myself as I sat in a sorry-looking office. I was sitting on a cheap rotating chair on wheels in front of a desk made from IKEA. The only thing that wasn't cheap were the metal doors that came down at an alarming speed when closed. I sigh, remembering I had other things to do than hide away in a room. I took a glance at the middle monitor and my blood ran cold.
Someone had lifted the curtains. There were three mic stands in the center, and designated spots for the main three. The worst part? There was only two on the stage. Bonnie was active.
I immediately start flipping through the available cameras and freeze at the west hall camera. A familiar figure was strutting down the hall. Shitshitshitshit, I thought to myself as I turned and launched myself at the big red button next to the door. And not a moment too soon, because I hear Bonnie yelp on the other side of the door.
I backed up while staring at the window, searching for any signs of movement. After what felt like an eternity of no movement, I cautiously open the door to find nothing. Sighing a breath of relief, I sat back in my chair, noticing the new pillows my head laid back on.
Wait a minute...
"Like them?" A playful voice said with a giggle, and the realization hit me like a truck. I immediately try to get up, but a set of yellow arms stop me from doing so. The girl says something else, but the only thing i could focus on was my erratic breathing. I kept struggling, with more voices getting closer. Eventually I got freed from the yellow girl's grasp, and terrified, I sprint out the other door, not being able to see what was ahead of me.
Next thing I know, I'm sitting in a restroom stall, shaking. My breathing was still shaky, but I knew I had calmed down from whatever panic attack that had caused it. I exited the stall, and look in the mirror. I looked like a wreck. My hair was a mess, and my jacket was missing, but surprisingly my phone was still in my pocket. I make a move to the door, but I hear a new voice just outside.
Her voice was much more mature than the other two's, and seemed like she was in charge. I should have gone back to hide, but curiosity got the best of me, and I listened in on them. "Where is he, you two? I thought you had him covered." She didn't even sound mad, just annoyed at worst. Then the Yellow Girl's voice responded.
"I don't know, Fred! I didn't think he'd get spooked so much."
Bonnie's voice chimed in, "He had closed the door on me earlier, too. I was coming back a second time when he ran off. We... lost sight of him awhile ago." Then there was silence, and I backed up from the door. I glanced around, looking for a better hiding place. A ridiculous idea came to mind, and I hid behind where the door would open, just as it cracked open. A brown head poked through, then left. I stood still, waiting for a sign that they left, but then the door opened up wide, almost hitting me. An audible scoff came from the middle of the room. I fugured it was the brown one from her voice. I hear her walk around, checking the stalls, evidently finding nothing, thanks to her frustrated sighs.
After a few minutes, she leaves, closing the door behind her. I breathed a sigh of relief as the voices faded away. I started laughing at how ubsurd my situation was. I didn't know if it was because I needed to calm down ,or if I was losing it. The only thing I could think of was, Simple and easy job, huh? My ass it is. As I finally calmed down, I opened the door to see if the coast was clear. It was empty, and to my surprise, the lights had been turned on. I guessed it was to help track me down, and I continued on.
Careful not to make too much noise, I wandered about, not really having an end goal in mind. I knew I shouldn't go back to the office, it would be too obvious. Hearing footsteps nearby, I thought again. I'd have the best shot back in there, though I'd have to be more careful than last time. It was a short walk back to the office, despite how much I ran earlier. I make a quick glance inside, and it was empty. I check behind me before entering, because the footsteps seemed closer than before, and hide under the desk instead of closing the door. It was risky, sure, but it was better than letting them know where I was.
The footsteps stop infront of the door, and I see Bonnie walk in. She sighs, seemingly annoyed, and closed the door she entered from. That alone confused me, but then she confuses me even more by closing the other door too. Did she find me? I thought. It wasn't like there wasn't anything infront of me to keep me hidden, bit if you knew how it looked before, it was quite obvious something was under the desk. Instead of finding me, Bonnie just sits in the office chair. I couldn't tell what she was doing, but I heard the unmistakable sound of the cameras switching. I almost laughed, knowing she wouldn't be able to find me. Or so I thought, because Bonnie scooted back, reached her arm under the desk, and quite easily moved the box out of the way.
Well, shit.
