Q: Favorite Sebastian character (other than Bucky)?

Mine is Mickey, but that's besides the point.

This one is a cute idea that's often used. Enjoy!

You were an insomniac.

Okay, let me rephrase.

You just couldn't find the will to sleep sometimes, no matter how many melatonin supplements you took, how many times you had to count backwards from 1,000 in your head. Nothing seemed to work.

Tonight, you were just sitting up against your headboard when you hear a sound from the other side of the wall, the one you share with Bucky Barnes, your longtime crush.

You two never talked, really. There were waves in passing, and eventually soft smiles, but you can't necessarily call yourselves "friends." Friendly acquaintances was more like it.

Your heart starts pounding almost immediately after hearing the sounds from Bucky's room. After your past in which you were kidnapped by Hydra after they had killed your parents in the next room over, you were constantly on guard to random noises you heard in the dead of night.

Despite your better judgment, you swept the blankets aside and rushed out of your room and towards Bucky's, knocking softly on the door so you don't disturb him.

When the noises grow louder, you suddenly realize what's going on.

Steve had told you that his best friend often suffered from nightmares from his decades of captivity in Hydra.

You never imagined it would come down to you having to comfort him, though.

You open the door and slowly walk into Bucky's room, your heart shattering more and more with every distressed sound he makes.

"Bucky?"

Suddenly, his sounds and rapid movements halt, as if standing at attention.

You frown and sit down on the bed beside him, softly shaking his shoulder. "You're having a nightmare, but you're okay. You're with me."

Even after your comforting words, he screams himself awake, his eyes wide and his pupils dilated as he looks at you. "Y/N? Is that you?"

You nod, trying your best not to smile too widely at the fact that he knows your name. "In the flesh. Are you okay? That sounded...bad."

Bucky runs a shaky metal hand through his sweaty hair and nods. "Yeah...yeah it was."

You frown once again. "I'm sorry. You shouldn't have to go through all that, James-"

"Doll, call me Bucky."

You ignore his interjection. "You deserve a peaceful life after all those years of suffering. I know the programming was wiped in Wakanda..."

He sits up as you trail off. "If it's the price I have to pay so other people can feel peace, then so be it." He shrugs his flesh shoulder. "It sucks, I'll admit it, but it's my lot in life, I guess. Nothing can be done."

Tears well in your eyes and you wipe them away over and over again as they come. "But you're so good, so gentle, so kind and heroic. I hate that you still have a part of you under Hydra's thumb after all these years. It's not fair."

"Y/N, doll, breathe and look at me, okay?"

You sigh and nod, looking deep into his sad blue eyes. "The nightmares suck, alright? I hate that I still get them. I agree with you on that. But healing isn't linear." He shrugs again. "At least that's what Sam says." He shakes his head. "Anyways, I'll take any amount of suffering if it means that the people I've hurt, those whose lives I've changed for the worse, can have closure and peace. Sure, it hurts to remember, but I'll pay that price if I need to." He looks at you and wipes your tears away. "I suspect you came in here to comfort me, not the other way around, am I right?"

You chuckle a little and nod, sniffling and wiping your nose with the back of your hand. "I heard you. I got scared that...it was happening again."

Bucky nods in understanding, his thumb rubbing your upper arm. "I don't know a lot about you, but I do know that we have quite a bit in common." He holds his arms out. "Can I have a hug, doll?"

You giggle and nod. "Absolutely."

You curl up into his arms and he runs his fingers through your hair. "Seems like we both needed this, huh?"

You nod. "Thank you."

"No, thank you." He kisses your head. "Maybe we can finally get some sleep, huh?"

Your eyelids are already drooping. "I think so."

Once you've drifted off, Bucky kisses your head again. "Thank you for everything, doll. I love you more than you will ever know."
