Lily's POV
*knock knock knock*
There was a knock at Lily Evans' door on her 9th birthday. Petunia Evans got up from the couch to go answer it, when Lily sprung up from her seat and ran to the door. She knew exactly who was there.
"Hello Lily" said a greasy haired boy, about a few months older than she was.
"Hi Severus! I knew you would come! Hurry inside! we''re just about to open my presents! Oh is that for me?" she said, pointing to a small box in Severus' hand.
"Oh yes, here you go." he said shyly as he handed her the tiny box, wrapped with blue wrapping paper, and tied with a white bow.
"Thanks!" She said as she pulled him inside her house.
The inside of Lily's house was small, but cosy. It had beautiful, hand crafted Persian carpets, with soft brown couches. The walls were covered with beautiful sky blue wall paper. Severus found it charming.
"Mum, Dad, Petunia, this is Severus Snape. The boy I've been talking about!" She said cheerfully as she made her way back to her seat and started to carefully open the small box Severus had gifted her.
Petunia glared at him as he entered the living room. She had disliked him ever since she had first met him.
"Hello Severus, it's very nice to meet you." Said Mrs.Evans as she shook Severus' hand. "I'm so happy my little Lily has a boyfriend!"
"Oh mother, we aren't dating!" Lily giggled as she continued to open her present.
"Right, we aren't a...couple..." Snape said with a disappointed look on his face as he sat down beside Lily.
At last Lily managed to open the box. She was mesmerized by what was kept inside it. It was a necklace with a golden chain and an hourglass pendant, surrounded by several different golden rings.
"Oh wow Severus! This is a beautiful necklace!" she exclaimed.
"That isn't just a necklace...it's a time turner..." said Severus
"Where did you get that?" asked her mother.
"He probably stole it from one of those filthy street merchants" laughed Petunia.
"Petunia!" shouted her mother angrily.
"I did not!" shouted Severus angrily "In fact, this is something that has been passed around my family for years!" he shouted. "I hope you like it Lily." he said smiling.
"It's beautiful, but what on earth is it supposed to do?" she asked.
"It does exactly what the title suggests." replied Severus. "You turn this ring here around until you hear a click. You could use two, three four, five clicks it doesn't matter! You can then start travelling through time! " he said excitedly.
Lily sat there in bewilderment. This boy had just given her a time travelling device. Something she thought couldn't even be possible!
Lily kissed Severus lightly on the cheek. Severus looked back at her in shock. He quickly turned away, blushing. His cheeks turning bright red
"I love it. Thank you! But...don't you want it? I mean if it's an old family relic then-"
"No no, I don't care much for it. I'm more in to spells. I insist that you have it." He said smiling.
They then continued on with the party. Eating cake and playing games. Until sunset.
what they didn't know that day was that the present day Lily Evans was watching behind the kitchen counter. Rubbing her time turner through her fingers. Letting the memories of when she and Severus were nine years old, and Severus actually seemed...happy. Memories flooded through her brain. She gave the time turner a few clicks and came back to the present. sitting on her bed, at night in the girl's dormitory. She remembered happiness fill Severus' face when she had said she loved the gift he gave her. While thinking of Severus her thoughts slowly came back to James Potter, and how he had (tried) to help that Pettigrew boy. She remembered how she had helped him when he was held twenty meters in the air by a weak levitation spell. She was perfectly convinced that he had just help poor Peter to solely impress her and there was nothing more to it.
But then, why had she helped him? She wondered. It was probably because despite her hatred for him, she didn't want him to fall and crack his head open. James Potter was still an arrogant, cocky, scumbag. And with that thought in her head, she went to bed.
I'm too young for romances anyway. She decided, as she slowly started drifting off to sleep.
