Ghosting Love

a bright morning sun greets him like every other day. a layer of sunlight ghosting over his face. jungwon gets excited when he realizes what today is. jumping up from his bed he rushes to get ready.

he's spending today with ni-ki, they're getting food at his favorite place, ice cream and going on a walk.

ni-ki gets awoken with light shining on his face from jungwon opening his door. the other being ready urges him to get ready too.

they take off, taking the long way to campus. bathing in the sun and each others presence.

jungwons smile is just as bright as the blazing sun. his mind is cleared from everything going on now only filled with thoughts of ni-ki.

ni-kis adoring him as he squeals on and on about the things they're going to do today.

their classes fly by fast , jungwons heart jumps with him when he sees ni-ki waiting outside his classroom with 2 cups of coffee in him hands.

the two embark on their journey. running off to jungwons favorite pizza place for a short food break. the place holds sentimental value and reignites memories. it was the place they went to for their first date. they were young and hopelessly infatuated with each other.

the meal enjoyed with smiles and warm laughs.

their next stop is the ice cream parlor by the park. jungwon gets his favorite ice cream with ni-ki getting the same. he knows jungwon will finish his quick and get sulky when he does so he always gets another one for him.

they stroll in the park and stop near the big old tree, jungwon runs up to it and searches for it.

his face brightens up when he finds the in-carving. a heart with JW+NK messily scratched into the tree bark. jungwon calls ni-ki over as he sits down. ni-ki sits beside him handing jungwon his ice cream as he rambled on about the sun about to set.

as the sun sets ni-kis skin glows under the warm tones of the setting sun. his mind purely focused on how beautiful jungwon looks all smiley and glowing.

jungwon notices the staring and questions him.

"is there something on my face? why're you staring?"

his voice being slurred cutely due to the mouth full of ice cream makes ni-ki laugh as he shakes his head.

even with how much adoration ni-ki shows to jungwon, jungwon has yet to give him a response. jungwon remains unnerving. the first date was a great success but ended with jungwons asking for more time to think.

ni-ki has given and will give him all the time in the world but he's still human and he's getting desperate for an answer.

he promised this day together so he could express his love for him again, only a faint dream of his answer.

he starts after hearing a silent break, spilling all his thoughts, putting into words how strongly he feels of jungwon.

suddenly everything seemed to stop, his thoughts, the words leaving his mouth, the time, almost the whole world when he heard the panicked sniffles coming from jungwon.

he looks up and sees an agitated jungwon with tears streaming down his face. panic arises in him prompting him to reach and cup jungwons face.
"hey hey what's wrong?"

jungwon jumps foreword an into his arms after hearing his voice, wailing even louder. ni-ki hugs him rubbing a hand on his back. jungwon holding onto ni-ki almost like he's afraid.

ni-ki waits for him to calm down then asks again.
"hey what's wrong? i'm sorry- i didn't mean to make you cry, you don't have to-"

ni-ki gets cut off when jungwon starts crying "you disappeared" and "you were gone" over and over again.

"i'm not going anywhere hyung, i'm not disappearing."

"don't go."

"i won't go anywhere."

"no! you disappeared, yo-you were gone!"

"what do you mean i was gone? i didn't go anywhere."

"you...you disappeared, like a ghost, just gone."

ni-ki grips his shoulders, leaning him out of the hug to look at him eyes to eye. his face still doused in tears.

"explain it to me, what do you mean by disappeared?"

"you, you just faded away and y-you were gone when i turned to look."

jungwon gets teary again causing him to jump into ni-kis embrace again, afraid that if he lets go he may never see ni-ki again.

"we should get home, jungwon. i promise i won't go anywhere 'kay?"

jungwon refused to let ni-ki out of his sight after the incident. in those few minutes he was gone jungwon knew he couldn't live without him, insisting to go wherever ni-ki goes.

weeks pass and everything goes back to normal. jungwon let's ni-ki go places alone now. though the thought of ni-ki disappearing again haunts him like his own shadow.

jungwon finally decides to accept ni-kis confession. he goes to the ice cream parlor, picking up a tub of their favorite ice creams and balloons.

he returns to their dorm, stopping to smile at ni-kis pair of their matching sneakers. ni-ki gifted his pair to him for christmas.

ni-ki never leaves the house without them on now.

he sneaks in, trying to be as quiet as possible not wanting to ruin his surprise. he sets everything up in the living room and goes to get ni-ki.

jungwon knocks on the door; there's no answer. he pushes the door open to an empty room. he panics and rushes to call ni-ki.

you could hear the thud of his heart falling when ni-kis ringtone echoes through the dorm. the phone lighting up in the messy bed sheets. 'my love jungwon' shown on the screen with a selca of the two as the wallpaper.

jungwon drops to his knees, his hands tangling into his hair, eyes blown with shock. his phone being thrown to the ground beside him. his phone still calling 'my kiki<3' the call ringing in his ears.

he try's desperately to come up with excuses. 'he's just out and forgot phone' 'maybe there was an emergency'

hours pass and jungwons reduced to tears as his hope ticks off with every passing second.

he camps out the night in ni-kis room. engulfing himself of the sheets basking in ni-kis scent. hoping that maybe just maybe he'll walk through the door and tell him everything is alright.

it's been 2 years, he's been called crazy for saying ni-ki 'disappeared'. jungwons turned dull, contrasting to the smiley colorful jungwon next to ni-ki on his phone screen.

he mucks up the courage to look through the box of belongings collected from ni-kis room. their matching shoes and friendship bracelets boil jungwon down to tears.

at the bottom of the box there's a white envelope. jungwon picks it up and reads the words on the front 'to my love jungwon'
