Mondstadt was currently celebrating the Windblume festival. The streets were lined with flowers; on the ground, hanging from baskets, everywhere. It was enough to make my allergies act up. The festival had lasted all week and tomorrow would be the last day—ending with a Windblume dace in the evening.

While dances weren't really my scene, I did want a certain someone to go with me—namely my best friend that I've had a crush on for forever. Venti. We hang out all the time, and over all those trips to Windrise and nights in the tavern together I had developed feelings for him. But does he even feel the same way?

"Y/N!" Venti wined. "There's no way I'm going to be able to afford this!"

"Venti, I told you I'd treat you for lunch if you helped me with my commissions today," I said. We were currently eating at Good Hunter for lunch and my bard friend was just realizing his financial situation.

As we were eating our food, I couldn't help but hint about the dance. I really wanted to go with him, but what would he say? Does he even see me like that?

"So, Venti..." I started. "Do you have any plans tomorrow night?"

He hummed and looked up at me as he had just taken a big bite of his sticky honey roast, clearly not getting the hint.

"I-I mean the dance. Do you plan on going?"

He choked on his food a bit as I said that, his face slightly turning red.

Is he nervous?

Before Venti could say anything, a tall man with dark blue hair approached our table and leaned into our one-sided conversation.

"Hey, fancy seeing you guys here," Kaeya said, taking a seat at our table.

"Hi Kaeya!" I welcomed him. Venti, on the other hand, looked less than happy that Kaeya had interrupted.

"So..." Kaeya continued, "are you guys planning on going to the dance tomorrow evening? I hear it's supposed to be fun."

Venti avoided all eye contact as I spoke. "Well, I haven't found anyone to go with yet. But I might show up for a little bit since it is the finale of the Windblume festival and everything."

Kaeya looked a bit surprised; he had expected to see both Venti and I go together but clearly that wasn't the case. Interesting.

"Really," he said, tilting his head in curiosity. "Why, a beautiful girl like you shouldn't be going to a dance like this alone. Why don't you come with me?"

Venti choked again on his food; I was shocked as well. Of course I didn't want to go to the dance alone, and Kaeya and I were friends as we occasionally did commissions together. It would be a lot of fun going to the dance with him, but part of me was hoping that a certain someone (namely the bard moping directly in front of me) had asked me to go to the dance with him instead. Oh well, this would be fun!

"Sure, I'd love to go!"

"Great!" Kaeya said as he got up from the table, "I have to go do some work for the Knights, I'll see you at 7 tomorrow night?" he asked.

"Sounds amazing!"

After that unexpected encounter, Venti and I continued the rest of the day as we normally would, but he seemed a little off. He would never look me directly in the eyes and was a lot quieter and less playful than usual.

I wonder what's wrong with him.

Today was the day of the Windblume dance. It was in a couple of hours, and Venti agreed to help me get ready. We both sat in front of a mirror where I did my makeup while he stood behind me weaving small cecilias into my hair.
