Five years had passed by since the trial, since the day they got justice and all they had done ever since was fighting their way back to daily life

"Poppy, come on" Meredith said as she stood up from the couch in her office "Let's go see daddy"

Meredith made her way over to neuro to find her husband and after a few minutes of walking around she had found him. Meredith noticed how Poppy's tail started shaking

"Hi" Meredith breathed as she slipped an arm around her husband's waist

"Hey you" Derek smiled as he saw his wife "Hi Poppy"

"I'm gonna head home. I'm so tired" Meredith whispered

"I'll bring you home so you won't have to take a cab" Derek kissed her forehead "How was work?"

"Schmitt and Bailey will have about 3 new cases that I sended them" Meredith smiled

She still did counseling but she couldn't return to surgery. First of all her right hand still had a pretty severe tremble even after all those years of PT and they even tried botox injections to relax the muscles but it didn't work. And second, the seizures still happened. Not often but a few times a week

Meredith, Derek and Poppy made their way to the exit and climbed in the car. Meredith had fallen asleep while Derek drove all the way to their house on the cliff

She had woken up when he parked the car so they got out and took Poppy but before they walked inside the door opened, revealing their now 9 year old daughter Grace

"Hi!" She giggled

"H-Hi honey" Meredith smiled and walked towards the front door, her right leg slightly dragging behind her as she was exhausted

"Hi mom" Grace hugged her mom and then kneeled down "Hi Poppy"

"Hi princess" Derek wrapped his arms around his daughter

"Dad" She laughed as he tickled her

"Hi guys!" They heard Alex say "Jo just called, she's gonna come home soon because she has some pregnancy cravings-" Alex told them

"Then what are you waiting for? You should run" Derek chuckled

"Bye guys!" Alex laughed, grabbed his jacket and ran off

Meredith was pushing herself to walk towards the couch and once she got there she let herself collapse and wasn't planning on moving any more

Grace undid Poppy from her harness and tried to take the dog outside but Poppy was too focussed on Meredith

"Dad?" Grace frowned

"What's wrong honey?" He walked back in

"Can you check on mommy?" She quietly asked

"Of course sweetie. Why don't you put on your pajamas so we can watch a movie?" Derek suggested and hurried his way to his wife

When Grace was walking towards her room she could hear Poppy barking, she knew what that meant

"Mer, shh. It's okay. It's okay." Derek said as a seizure started. She was staring straight ahead and wasn't responding to anything

Poppy pushed her paw on Meredith's leg as Derek held her hands in his as he started talking

"It's okay, honey. Poppy and I are with you, we're making sure you'll be okay. Shh, you're okay" He whispered

The seizure took a while and Derek couldn't remember the last time it had taken this long but before worry took over he started thinking about how the seizures were years ago, back when she had full body seizures that left her shaking on the ground

"Hey, it's okay" Derek said when the seizure ended

"Seizure?" She weakly asked

"Yeah. Do you wanna go to bed or stay here and nap a bit?" Derek asked her

"Can I stay here? With you and G-Gracie?"

"Of course. Let's get you comfortable" Derek helped her lay down and covered her with a blanket "I'll go get us some drinks and something to snack"

...

The family of four was laying on the couch as they watched a movie. Meredith was asleep in Derek's arms with Poppy pushed against her feet which came in hand for her cold feet

Derek and Grace were watching a Disney movie while eating popcorn

"Daddy, that dog looks a bit like Poppy" Grace giggled

"She does" Derek agreed. Grace was resting in her dad's side, his arm wrapped around her as this was how the family enjoyed being cuddled up the most

Grace used to call it their family hug

"D-Der?" Meredith whispered

"Hi, what's wrong honey?"

"I have to pee" Meredith softly chuckled

"Oh" Derek laughed and let her escape his arms, Poppy immediately stood up to follow Meredith to the bathroom

"Daddy, we have to get Mommy's favorite candy now she's up!" Grace gasped

"Are you gonna get them? I'll go grab is some fresh juice" Derek suggested

By the time Meredith had returned, she had let Poppy run outside first for a bit, she saw her husband and daughter laying on the couch

"How's the movie?" She asked

"Such a good movie! Mommy, look!" Grace said and held the bowl of candy in her mother's sight

"Oh honey, you're the best!" Meredith giggled

"Hey, I brought us fresh juice!" Derek pretended to be hurt

"Okay, both of you are the best!" Meredith said but then Poppy started whining "Okay, all three of you" They all started laughing
