It was early morning and as sun shone brighter, Sayuri tip-toed in the bedroom and placed a 3 tier-cake on a table next to an anti-clockwise sleeping Kanha. Nakul too came in with balloons and balloons and balloons until the whole ceiling was covered with it. Sayuri smiled at Nakul as they silently high-fived each other with a smile and went out of the room.
It was Kanha's first birthday after Chiru's death. Nakul remembered how Kanha used to announce his gift list a month before his birthday and how he used to countdown days to his birthday. Everything changed this year. Kanha strictly forbidden everyone to buy any gifts for him and slept early on his birthday eve. Sayuri too knew Kanha's ritual very well because why not; they were neighbors since birth. His best birthday gift used to have a huge prank planned with Nakul to see Sayuri getting irritated. She knew how Chiru used to buy every single thing Kanha used to demand and always made sure his birthday is celebrated grandly.
It was then, when Sayuri saw Nakul upset on the roof; crying, she decided to surprise her husband- Kanha. Nakul and Sayuri joined hands and started preparing for his birthday. It took Sayuri, a whole night to make his over the top cake and took Nakul 100 calls to deliver those balloons 1st thing in the morning. They were happy that their work paid off. They slowly closed the door when Saroj gave them a mean look before going downstairs to clean Chiru's photo. Nakul looked at Sayuri with hope as she smiled and walked downstairs to bring her gift for Kanha.
"What's that Sayuri?", asked Nakul as he saw the gift in her hand. "Surprise!!!", said Sayuri as she smiled cheekily and entered the room. She sat on the other bed as they both waited for Kanha to wake up.
