I'm sure you're probably wondering, introductions? Well, I think it's best to get to know me well, since we'll be seeing each other throughout this story. I can't give you my name, but you can just call me Narrator.
Now as you read this book, many of you will ask: "This book is called The Keeper, I don't understand why it's called that?" I get it. It doesn't really seem like he's keeping anything right? Well unfortunately that is where you are wrong. If it wasn't for the constant protection of the thoughts in his head and the emotions that he kept locked within and on the paper of notebooks burned to keep them away from public eye or even the poems that went out anonymously published, then this monster couldn't thrive. A monster our dear character created on all his own.
We can all at least admit that monsters aren't born they're created whether for good or bad. Let's take Frankenstien or Frankenstein's monster that is. He was created by a scientist that our world likes to call mad but maybe Frankenstien wasn't so mad. We love trying to manifest things into existence but maybe he just manifested a monster he might relate too. Such as how Lucifer or Satan came to be. A demon but we also known him as a fallen angel and before. Just as a plain old angel, god's favorite even. He was created by himself. Born doing divine work but slowly consumed by his own greed for the finer things in life. This is much like how our main character was created.
Alastair was not much of a social butterfly. He did his absolute best to keep the optimistic and friendly attitude that he had as a child, but it got harder each day. Each day he got quieter, his opinions silent to others but loud to him. He made his moves in the dark. He has saved himself countless times from falling down the rabbit hole and even dragged himself out of it a couple times. Times were hard and outsiders looking in never saw the torment behind the locked gate he built surrounding the truth. He wasn't isolating himself, he loved talking to people and still loves talking to others but if there was one thing he learned from living under the roof of strangers is that you can't make someone care about your opinion no matter how hard you try. And I'll tell you, he has tried many times. It's not easy especially when the person you try to express yourself to is supposed to be the person who loves you unconditionally not as a friend or lover but their own flesh and blood. Funny how those people can be a complete stranger to you. Now he hasn't made great choices but let's be honest, who has? Who can say that they haven't made a couple of mistakes in their life? But mistakes are what make us human and they are what help us learn, adapt and thrive in our world today. Although his people have made the exact mistakes he did, there's a funny way of how they use protecting you as an excuse to treat someone so terribly hm? How they can make you out to be the bad guy or the worst one just so they can justify it?
That's alright, I could sit here and go on and on about the many monsters that are created and thought up into this world but just like you, I enjoy watching this monsters creation. So those looking from the outside, in. Don't be so quick to judge based on his actions, not everyone has such easy access to much more helpful things or have ways to escape situations ever so toxic but enough of this boring old narrator babbling on about the idea of how people can so easily misjudge a person's character. I'm sure you'd like to know more about our main one and his struggles. This isn't a book of exposure although I'm sure many could see it that way and I'm sure many will take it that way but this is a book of relations. A book to draw out those who think they're alone. I promise you, you're not. We want this book to show everybody that there are people who understand even if the situation doesn't seem as severe or it isn't exactly like your situation but a toxic household is a toxic household no matter the circumstances. So as I said before, enough of my idle chatter. Let's go meet our beloved character shall we. I believe he's waking up to another wonderful morning hm? An eternity of watching this play out isn't so bad is it? Let's hop into this story and see how it unfolds shall we?
