CHAPTER 1: DIFFERENT
I sit in the field staring up to the pale blue sky with hope and dreams. I love the peace but it won't last for long I know something bad will happen. I know. I know everything that is needed to know.
That's why my name is Mirabelle. Not a normal name like Anna, Taylor, Brittany, or my favorite Sara. My mother knew I was special sense the day she found out she was pregnant with me. My brother on the other hand has a normal name.
Noah, I guess he wasn't special like me when he should of been.
Noah is 4 years younger than me, but he is as mature as me, a 13 year old. We look nothing alike. He has black hair and brown eyes. And I have red hair and green eyes. I have no idea how that's possible sense we have the same parents.
"Mirabelle!" The sound pierces the cool fall air. I know that sound it's my dad. It hits me, my dad He's home!! He's actually home!!
I stand straight up and run as fast as I can towards the house. I scream at the top of my lungs "Daddy!!" With the last breath I have left I scream it again making sure this is real.
I should know this is real because I saw it last night in my dream. That's why I know everything I see it in my dreams. I don't know why but I do. It's scary sometimes because I see someone dying or being murdered. But I'm 13 now and I've learned to keep my mouth shut about it.
I pull the back screen door and notice my mom and Noah just standing there looking at me dad like he is a ghost. I look at my dad, wait is that him? I look for the scar on my his hand. It's not there, or his watch I got him for his birthday.
Mom grabs my arm tightly and pulls me to the other side of her. I whisper to her "What's going on?" But mom didn't answer. The man hands my mother a letter, then told me to go up stairs along with my brother.
I grab Noah's arm and with all my might pull him up the stairs.
"What's going on?" He ask impenitently.
"I have no idea."I answer back.
"Well, you should if those dreams of yours are right!'
"I don't know Noah I swear!"
"You told me that dad was coming home today, and that's not dad down stairs."
"Sometimes it can be wrong Noah!"
"Well make it right Mirabelle."
"How?"
We just stand there staring at each other dumbstruck.
"Mom's right you are different, and in my perspective, not a good way."
I shake it off and just head towards the bottom of stairs. Nothing absolutely nothing had happened while me Noah argued, except that weird man left. Thank God.
But my mom is crying. Why is she crying? I've never seen her cry, well, when Grandpa Morris died.
"Mom?" I whisper as low as I can.
Mom sniffles and drys her tears. "Well, that weird man is gone..."
"I sort of figured that out mom."
She nodded a slight nod and started to fill a pot full of water. Oh great now I have to go water the flowers. And when I have to water the flowers Noah has to go with me. I get it, mom wants to be alone.
"Noah!!" She screamed up the stairs.
I hear a moan and thud thud thud. And the here comes my wonderful little brother ticked off.
"Noah and Mirabelle will you guys please go water the flowers?" Mom asked in her non-sweet motherly voice. Noah looked at me like 'do I have to' so I kicked him in the shin and answered my mother with a quiet "yes".
As we walk along the cobble stone pathway on the 100 degree heat. Noah just struggled just holding his half. "Here," I say when I grab the other half of the pot. "let me get that."
"Why are you so nice to me when I treat you like poop?" Noah asked
"Because, your my little brother and I have to watch after you."
"Well, makes sense."
I drop the pot and the water splashes every where I feel the cold water touch my sun burned legs. I look at Noah and I see his lips moving but nothing's coming out. Am I going deaf? What's going on?
He standing there alone in the ruins of a forbidden city. The gun shots fill the air. He ducks and crawls to a empty building. Well he thinks it is empty anyway. Then there's dead silence. He's afraid to come out then. BOOOOOOOOOM!!!!
"Oh God," I whisper.
"What's wrong?" Noah looked up at me scared to death.
"I know where dad is."
