it was that time of the year where the world caved in to it's deep slumber, when the days breath cold and the nights went long. snow floats delicately onto the ground like fallen petals from a withering rose, and the daisies bid their farewells to a slow winter death. bokuto tilted his head up to the endless sea of darkness hovering above him, cheeks glow in a faint pink as the little flurries continue to peppers his face with their soft kisses.

the night has become silent, still, he can even hear his breath under the red scarf that was wrapped around his neck. bokuto shoved his hands deeper in the pocket of his coat as an icy rush passes by, the warmth radiating from the scar he's wearing did a little to offer some coverage to hide his chattering teeth underneath. the ones who were living in that moment was him and his bright friend up there, under the cries of the sky, buried under the flurry of snow from the chaos of the world.

streets, minimally adorned with tiny lights shines like fireflies on a summer night lit up the park with their golden halo. bokuto couldn't help but thought how very contrasting they are with the graceful flakes that fell from the heavens, and yet how peaceful they look together underneath the moonbeam. very few people could be seen wandering around the park as he is, either with a partner or in group, each with a paper bag slinging in their arms and a smile peeking behind their scarfs.

if it weren't for mother nature with her jealousy, maybe he'd have drag his quiet friend out of his tiny cave. a small pout fell on his lips, knowing that he'll have to spend few days ahead with himself only, the others already had their schedules worryingly packed that it made him hiss like a wet cat everytime he would remember them talking about it.

a forced bump on his shoulder quickly shook him out of his train of thoughts as the person scrambled out a hasty 'sorry!' before dashing away. bokuto stared at their back until their figure slowly melts away with the curtain of snowflakes that separated them both, an 'are you ok?' barely leaving his tongue as his forehead wrinkled in confusion.

well, that was an odd impression.

he was about to walk away when a lump under his boot stopped him in his tracks. crouching, he carefully lifted up the came-from-nowhere keychain towards the sky as a ray of dim light reflected on it's screen. the case enclosing the keychain was a smooth soft hues of (f/c), engraved along the sides said (f/n) in gold letters. a beautifully intricate design of a puzzle piece hung down from the hook that connected them both as bokuto awed at it's magnificence.

though, that wasn't the actual thing that caught his attention, but the picture framed inside the keychain.

inside, there were a candid of two girls in their casual attire. one of them had a tiara narrowly escaped it's fall while the other wore an incredulous tall blue hat with yellow polka dots. noticably, anyone could tell with a glance that it was taken on a birthday as both of their faces are smudged with cake cream and flakes of confettis. a toothy smile painted on their lips.

it must've fell down when that person bumped into me... but how can i give it back?

oh!

a light bulb flicked above his head as he snapped his hand in delight. placing the keychain inside the coat's warm pouch, bokuto skidded his way home, sealing a promise in each step he took.

oh he wouldn't be feeling alone anymore. because two lonely souls could've been a destiny, an unrequited love between the moon and the sun tells a tale of a beginning after the end.
