The Weight of a Legacy

Chapter Two

"So, you and Toby? What were you two doing?" asked Emily with a sly grin on her face.

I responded back, "Nothing happened Em! He was giving me a ride back because Cassie had to get ready for the Welcoming Ceremony."

"That is not what I saw!" Caroline screamed. "From what I could see, your and Toby's hands touched unknowingly, and then you guys were kept staring at each other for like ten minutes! And from what I could tell, he had the 'I want to f*ck you!' eyes.' If you didn't start talking, I am sure you two would have been making out!"

"Like h*ll we would!" I screamed back. "There is no way that I would have kissed Tobias Verbeck! He is an arrogant prick who does not know how to control his wolf. I am amazed that he is not a player like most alphas to be. From what Cassie tells me is that Tobias thinks he is going to find his mate tonight, and what happened in the truck was him being an unmated male who is on the edge of going psycho!"

Emily says, "You never know what the Moon Goddess has in store for you. Maybe what happened in the truck was just a foreshadowing of what is yet to come. What if you are Tobias Verbeck's mate?"

"If I am Toby's mate then I will accept him since our souls are made for each other, but I will not know about that until the Welcoming Ceremony tonight. But, I am not going to fall into some wolf-endorsed antics with someone who might not even be my mate! Even though rejecting your mate is extremely rare, I do not want to put myself into a position of potentially being rejected. I want my first kiss to be from my mate, and not some horny wolf who can keep it in his pants!" I said.

Emily responds back, "We get it Annie. We all want to only be interested in our future mates. Caroline and I were just teasing you because you and Toby would be cute together. Also, he is a good guy deep down, and all we want is for you to be happy and healthy."

"Em is right. I just wanted to tease you cause I hope that Toby is your mate, and what just happened in the truck would be super cute if you find out that he is your mate," Caroline said.

"Thanks, you guys!" I said. "Now let's start getting ready for the Ceremony tonight cause I need to look good!"

Caroline exclaimed as she was putting on her lip stick, "Oh my God! I can't believe that Adam really threw a chainsaw at a bear!"

Em said back while zipping up her dress, "My favorite part is that Henry just sat in the truck laughing about the whole thing! God, I love that little devil!"

"Yeah!" I said. "Then Tobias was called in to save Adam because we all know Adam does not stand a chance against an eight-foot grizzly bear. Apparently, Toby shifted and killed the bear in like two minutes! So now, Toby is getting the hide of the bear prepared into something for his future mate."

"That sounds so hot!" Em said. "Imagine a strong alpha wolf like Tobias rescuing you from danger, and that mate of his is going to be a very lucky person."

I say, "Emily, stop being so sappy! Tobias has to be a wolf for him to be the alpha for this pack. Stop romanticizing a scary situation."

Caroline chimed in, "Annie, you don't like her saying that because you want Toby all to yourself!"

I begin to blush, "That is not true!"

"Oh my God! Our little Annie has a crush on Toby! Look at her blush!" Emily said. "Alright, let us finish getting ready so we can go to the Welcoming Ceremony so Annie and I find some mates!

I just rolled my eyes at that one.

The whole family gathered in the living room before we headed on out to the Welcoming Ceremony. Everyone is dressed with some form of burgundy on. Us four women all wore burgundy ball gowns. My mother was in a modest, yet fitted beaded dress that hit the floor. She and my father were both wearing gold sashes that represented that they were from the Nielsen Pack. Emily was wearing a flowy, a-line, silk dress with intricate straps that grace over her collarbone and back. Carolin is wearing a tulle, tea length ball gown with beading on the bodice. Catharine was wearing a knee length ball gown with 3D flowers scattered across the skirt. Lastly, I was wearing a tulle ball gown with a handkerchief skirt with hidden sparkle underneath the tulle. The guys were also wearing different variations of burgundy. All of them were wearing tuxedos. My father wore a traditional black tux with a burgundy bow tie and comberbunt. Chris went the same way, but with a navy tux. Jacob was wearing a burgundy tux with black accents, and Ed went all burgundy but the jacket had a paisley print.
