Death. That is what the world was now. Everywhere you went, everything you saw, every sound you heard. There was only death. No escape, no chance of survival. Only the lucky few had been spared, but to say they were alive would be lying. They were witness to the slaughtering of children, the screams of woman as their limbs were torn from their bodies, the hungry chewing of sharp fangs on soft flesh. They saw their families and loved ones perish, and they had to live with the thought of being left behind. Why them, why me?
Lost, wandering eyes, blood caked hair, blank, staring expressions. What was left of them was no better than the monsters themselves. They were ghosts of the people they once were. Their souls had fallen victim to the most unfortunate fate: the curse of life.
But somewhere, glimmering amongst the shadows, there was a sparkle of hope. A shimmer in the darkness. Something new. A baby. One lone infant against the world, uncorrupted and fresh. She would not be like the others. She would rejuvenate the poor hollow souls, and she would make them human again. She waits in her slumber, waits for the future, when she can finally shine bright enough to ignite the darkness, and bring the world back into the light.
And she waits in starlight.
