Imani stood in the bleachers, cheering Jr. on as he did his thing on the court. Whenever she wasn't busy, she always made sure to show up and support Man whenever she could. Since her mother didn't bother and her father couldn't, she figured it was up to her to show up for him.

Tonight was an important night for him. A lot of college scouts would be there tonight and Imani was hoping that they'd have all eyes on Jr. This could possibly be a chance for him to get accepted and hopefully to a school that was far away from home.

"Have you talked to daddy about Jr?" Iesha, Jr's twin, questions her big sister.

Imani shakes her head. "Everything gon be okay. Imma handle it."

"Imani I gotta tell you some." Iesha starts. "Daddy got-"

A man plops down right next to Imani and Iesha, clearing his throat. Imani rolls her eyes blowing out a breath.

"What's good Imani? Iesha." Their Uncle Steel says with a smile.

"Wassup unc." Iesha says.

"Sylvester." Imani says bluntly with her eyes still glued to Man on the court.

Imani reaches in her purse before pulling out some cash. She hands it to Iesha before nodding for her to give them a minute. Iesha sucks her teeth before getting up from the bleachers.

"Take Izzy and Isla with you. Get them some to eat while we talk." Imani says.

"Aight." Iesha says walking away.

Imani grabs her arm. "And bring me my change back."

Iesha rolls her eyes before heading off towards concessions with the kids, leaving Imani and their uncle alone. Her uncle takes off his glasses, watching Man on the court putting up points like crazy.

"So. You talk to your pops?" Steelo asks.

"Yep." Imani says dryly.

He clears his throat. "Yo pops inside but it's only so much he could do. Man's time has come to take over the business."

"I already told you and my pops, Jr. ain't pushing no drugs for nobody. He gon go to school. He got way too much potential and shit going for him. For what? For him to quit ball so he could be some knucklehead corner boy like everybody else?" Imani says to her uncle in a hushed tone.

Why should Man have to throw his life away for their father? Even inside her father was trying to be controlling. Imani wished he would just let her brother be.

He deserved a better life than what her father had.

"Nobody say Jr. gotta quit ball. But what your father say, goes Imani. Man ain't got a choice, he already in this shit." Steelo shrugs.

Imani looks taken back for a second before she purses her lips in thought.

Her uncle shrugs before getting up from the bleachers. He began making his way down before looking back up at Imani.

"And your pops say he wanna see you. You should make the trip soon."

Imani sucks her teeth before rolling her eyes at her uncle.

The buzzer finally went off indicating that tonight's game was over. After Jr. got his things together, he made his way towards Imani when he was stopped by some scout from a school.

Imani decided that she'd talk to Man eventually, but not right now.
