School and cheer started up again and Brooklyn and I fell more and more in love. The only problem was Lillian.
She seemed to be everywhere. She was in cheer, she got transferred to my math class, she was always just a table away at lunch and I saw her at the diner and the store. It was creepy.
I was still mad at her but with time and distance I barely cared anymore.
One day at cheer practice Lexie was randomly pairing us up to practice our back handsprings.
"As much as I would love to see you lazy fatties fall and break your backs, then I'd be out a squad. So you need a spotter." Lexie said.
She went down and paired is up.
"Okay... Soulless ginger and Carolina you two are together."
My eyes widened. "But Lexie-"
"Shut up."
Lillian spoke up. "I will not-"
"Fuck off soulless ginger."
She shut up and I smirked. But I was still upset about havin' to work with her.
Some workout music started and we moved to the field to start.
"I don't trust you." Lillian said with narrowed eyes. "You better not let me die."
I rolled my eyes. "Oh please. I could say the same thing about you."
"Well you go first."
"Fine." I huffed.
I planted my feet squarely on the mat and bent my knees slightly. Then I swung my arms back, pushed off and did the flip. I landed almost perfectly with my hands up, but my right foot faltered a bit on the landin'.
"Pfft." Lillian laughed mockingly. "Try not to die on me, Carolina."
My eyes narrowed.
Lexie happened to be walkin' by supervising. "Shut the fuck up soulless ginger. If she dies its on you. And Carolina get that landing into shape, got it you two?"
We nodded.
"Your turn." I said to Lillian.
Lexie stood by to watch.
This seemed to make Lillian nervous. She took a deep, shaky breath and got ready.
She pushed off but swerved sideways in mid-air and when she landed she stumbled and almost fell flat on her face. I caught her.
"What the actual fuck?" Lexie raged.
Lillian shrunk back.
"Fuck you soulless ginger! Fix that this minute or you're off the squad!"
"Lexie that's not necessary-" I tried.
"Quiet, Carolina! I'm captain and what I say goes!" She turned back to Lillian. "Get it together! NOW!" Then she moved to the next group.
The redhead stared at me for a second and her eyes watered. Then she turned and fled to the locker room.
I rolled my eyes but ran after her anyways.
When I reached the locker room Lillian was sittin' on one of the benches bawlin' her eyes out.
I took a deep breath, musterin' up any ounce of love and forgiveness that I felt and watched my clean white sneakers as I walked over to my former best friend. "Hey."
"Just go away." She wiped her eyes. "Go be with your new best friend that you ditched me for."
I scoffed. "Excuse me but do you not remember why we stopped bein' friends?! It was because of you and things you said! Oh and also how you slapped me!"
