School Play Roles

Matt's P.O.V.

I was walking to my first period. It was Monday. I hate Mondays.

I was just casually walking when someone pulled hand hand. I looked over and saw that it was Amy.

"Amy? What are you doing!?" I said to her.

"Come on!" She said, pulling very hard on my arm.

She dragged me to the front of the drama room. With several other people there.

"What is it?" I asked.

"The roles for the play." She said.

"Oh ok."

After more people cleared out I finally got to see the paper.

Oh my god. I got the lead role. I'm playing Jason.

"I'm Christina." Amy said and then she smiled. "I got a lead role!"

She jumped up and down.

"Yeah and I'm Jason." I told her.

"Really!? I knew that you would do good!" She said.

I looked at the paper again and there was a note at the bottom.

All students with a lead role please go to the drama room for first period.

"Amy we have to go to the drama room." I told her.

"Good I get to miss math class." She said.

"Yeah." I said and then we walked into the drama room.

We sat next to each other at a table and I saw that Jack was in there as well.

After a few moments David and Chris came in. What?

And then some more people came in one of them including Clara.

Then the drama teacher stood up.

"Ok you guys first rule of the stage: do not skip any rehearsals." She said very strict as she got some papers from her desk. "Second rule: Memorize your lines ASAP."

She handed out packets of paper, which were the scripts.

"Third rule: focus."

She handed me my script. My lines were highlighted in green. And I saw that I had a lot of them.

"Fourth rule: always use your loudest voice."

I flipped through the packet just to see what I was going to be doing. I looked at one page and saw something I wish I didn't.

I'm going to have to do a kissing scene with Amy.

I looked over to her awkwardly. I hope that she hasn't seen it yet. Well I mean of she does it wouldn't be my fault.

I continue to look at the script again. And then I saw another thing I wish I hadn't.

I'm going to have to kiss Clara.

Great. Two things that just make social interactions awkward.

But again it isn't my fault so I think I will survive.

"So as you very well know the play is about 4 school kids who are trying to get revenge on the popular guy who is mean to other kids." The drama teacher said. "So Matt you will be playing the role of Jason, Clara the role of Arielle, Jack the role of Greg, Amy the role of Christina, David the role of Kyle, Christopher the role of Principal Johnson, Donna is Mrs. Turner, Martha is Miss July and Rose is Sarah."

40 minutes later

First period was almost over and the drama teacher gave us our scripts and rehearsal schedules. She also explained to us usual scenes and lines to us.

And the kissing scenes weren't one of them.

"Ok so I'm sure you have seen that there is a few kissing scenes." She said. "Now that is ok I'm going to teach you how to do it."

Oh good.

"So Matt you will kiss Amy and Clara and David you will kiss Rose and so will Jack." She explained. "So let's have a few practice rounds before we have to have an awkward time during rehearsals."

Wait does that mean...

"So Clara, Amy and Matt you go over there and Jack, David and Rose group over there." She said. "And Martha, Donna and Christopher come up and see me so I can teacher you about various props."

Me, Amy and Clara exchanged glances. Then I stood up and opened the door that lead to the stage.

We grouped together.

"So..." I said.

"Do we just..?" Amy said.

"Let's just get this over with." Clara said. "So Matt the two of us have to kiss you."

She looked at her script.

"So? Who goes first?" I asked.

"Well in the script, I kiss you first." Clara said. "Do you just want to do it that way?"

"It works for me." I said.

"Oh I'm going I have to watch you do this." Amy said in disgust.

"Ok so do we do this in character?" I asked Clara.

"Yeah sure." She said then looked at her script as did I.

"Ok so the first line is at that scene is: Arielle, I know Kyle figured it out but we can make a new plan!" I said.

"It's not that." She said.

"What do you mean?" I said.

"I mean that your funny and kind and your just all in all a great guy." She said and then held my hand, as it said in the script.

"Where is this going?"

"It's going here." Clara said and then she kissed me.

But not a tongue kiss of course. Of course not! We just kiss for like 3 seconds and then broke away.

"Ok that was weird to watch but it was still good rehearsal!" Amy said and I laughed a bit at her.

"Well your up next." Clara said to her.

"Oh yeah I forgot about that." She said and then she came over and stood in front of me as Clara moved out of the way.

"Ok so I just start reading the lines?" She asked me.

"Yeah."

"Ok." Then she looked at her script. "Then Kyle tried to drug me and after that I hated him."

"That's horrible." I said then stared into her eyes like it said to do in the script.

"Yeah. Kyle is a jerk and he needs to pay." She said.

Then I leaned into her and closed my eyes. Our lips lightly touched each other and then the loud bell rang. We both quickly separated from each other because we were startled by the bell.

"Good practice." Clara said clapping.

"Thanks?" I said.

"Well I got to miss math because of this." Amy said.

"Yeah me too." I said.

"Yeah I got to miss English." Clara said and we walked back into the drama room.

As we entered we saw Rose snogging David in the corner. And the teacher doesn't notice. I something in me thinks that it isn't a rehearsal.

I collect my books and got out of the class quickly so I didn't have to see him anymore.

"Well that was an interesting first period." Amy said as we walked in the hall together on our way to history.

"Yeah. The cherry on top of the cake was Rose snogging David." I joked and me and Amy both laughed.
